@vivify saidYou believe that only black people are killed by cops. The only thing you listed that is valid for modern day America and it is a racist falsehood.
Slavery, red-lining, Jim Crow laws, a president endorsed multiple times by the KKK banning Muslims, outspoken white supremacist Stephen Miller designing racist government policies for Trump, Republican voter suppression of minorities, the U.S. forcing Puerto Ricans to pay taxes without any representation in Congress, forcing residents of Guam to pay taxes without representati ...[text shortened]... ve their hands up while helping disabled people, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc......
Pathetic
@vivify saidYou mention things that have happened in the past that have been rectified, then you tell an outright lie with this..
Slavery, red-lining, Jim Crow laws, a president endorsed multiple times by the KKK banning Muslims, Joe Arpaio rounding up Hispanics without probable cause or due process and putting them in chains, outspoken white supremacist Stephen Miller designing racist government policies for Trump, Republican voter suppression of minorities, the U.S. forcing Puerto Ricans to pay taxes ...[text shortened]... ve their hands up while helping disabled people, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc......
"white cops shooting unarmed nonviolent black men on the ground who have their hands up"
you sir are a racist!
@vivify said"White privilege is actually a stupid term"
White privilege is actually a stupid term and the use should be stopped. It implies the issue is that white people are more successful. That's not the issue.
The issue is the brutality, exploitation and oppression whites have used to gain their current standing. That's the problem.
Instead of "white privilege", a more honest term like "white oppression" should be us ...[text shortened]... ss it's about them, like Earl of Trumps complaining the term "White Privilege" hurts their feelings.
It's not
"It implies the issue is that white people are more successful. "
It doesn't. It simply states white people have an advantage in all western countries. What one does with that advantage is still up to them. If i start 50m from the finish line in a 100m dash race because i am white, Usain Bolt will still beat me. A random black dude equally physically gifted would not
"The issue is the brutality, exploitation and oppression whites have used to gain their current standing. That's the problem. "
That's white privilege. To benefit from said brutality even if you didn't have a direct hand in causing it.
"Instead of "white privilege", a more honest term like "white oppression" should be used."
How is it more honest? Does every white person everywhere actively engage in oppression?
Or do you strictly refer to what conservative whites are doing? Do you think white privilege only refers to racist rednecks?
The most liberal end leftist kid in the US benefits from white privilege if he had an ancestor who got a loan from a bank when blacks couldn't, if he was able to buy a house in clean peaceful neighborhoods, if he can be stopped by a traffic cop and only think about how it would make him 5 minutes late to where he was going (instead of thinking if this is the day he dies)
Clarify what you mean because to me it seems you think white privilege only applies to conservatives
@zahlanzi saidRight. But too often this term gets twisted by white privilege deniers to mean that non-whites are just jealous they're not at the status of whites. Like being jealous of the kid in school whose parents can buy him what others can't afford. That e4e guy implied this same thing on another thread.
"It implies the issue is that white people are more successful. "
It doesn't. It simply states white people have an advantage in all western countries.
Because of this, the conversation often needs to get dragged back to the main issue, which HOW whites gained their status; and that gets tiring. A different term would prevent the semantics. But then again, it doesn't matter what you call it it, those same people will just find something else to throw at it.
"Instead of "white privilege", a more honest term like "white oppression" should be used."
How is it more honest? Does every white person everywhere actively engage in oppression?
Because the issue, again, the issue isn't success, it's the means by which whites gained their status: through oppression. Not all whites engage in it but all whites benefit in some form.
Clarify what you mean because to me it seems you think white privilege only applies to conservatives
As I said to Eladar, all whites benefit in some way, shape or form from privileges gained through white oppression.
The post that was quoted here has been removedWell, look at you.....you can get a job at McDonalds or KFC without ever going to college.
Aren’t you the clever one !!
From the solid Trump support base, uneducated middle age white men.
Trump just loves poorly educated people !! 😆

@eladar saidWhite privilege, simplified, means that your skin color won't be a barrier to success, in western nations, unlike with non-whites.
The whites living in poverty who are poorer than 80 percent of black people benefit from being white?
The white guys who are shot and killed by police benefit from being white?
@vivify saidYou mean like Oprah, Barak Obama and LeBron James, got it.
White privilege, simplified, means that your skin color won't be a barrier to success, in western nations, unlike with non-whites.
Seems to me that people would rather blame others for lack of success rather than themselves. In other words, it is a racist cop out.
