If you guessed "a majority of aging rednecks and hillbillies," you guessed correctly. Hardly a surprise, really.

Excerpts:

[...]
In September David Brady and Douglas Rivers of the Hoover Institution took a closer look at the demographics of Mr Trump's enduring coalition. They painted a picture of Trump supporters as largely older, less wealthy and less educated.
They found that more than half of Trump-backers are female. About a third are over the age of 65. Only 2% are younger than 30. Half of his voters have a high-school diploma, but just 19% have a college degree. Just over a third earn less than $50,000, while 11% make six figures or more.

If you would like to understand the Trump phenomenon I recommend listening to this:

https://soundcloud.com/urbanophile/why-the-republican-base-hates-the-gop-establishment-and-loves-donald-trump

It's a 27 minute interview where an urban New Yorker questions his Trump supporting father about his views. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but so far the old guy is pretty engaging. The upshot so far is not that he loves Trump, but rather that he hates (HATES) the Republican party.

"The Donald" has been pretty good at tapping into voter anger over established politicians. I highly doubt the majority of voters are going to back him at election time though. His circus like racist rants are moderately entertaining, but I just can't see him winning with such a high disapproval rating. Trump has painted himself and rest of the GOP into a corner, if he stays on his present path, people will be saying "Madam President" with a tone of predestination in their voices. I'm not saying this because I'm a Democrat, frankly I don't like Hillary, I think she's a lying little cow and undeserving of the office of President.

The GOP has a golden chance to win back the White House, but The Donald is shooting them in the foot. C'est la Vie!

The silent majority represent Americans who do not support the establishment types on the left or the right.

You, on the other hand, are a leftist European who believes in a government dominated society so go ahead and belittle your betters who you don't understand.

Sorry you feel that way, but I'd rather live in a government dominated society rather than a corporate dominated society. 😏

I'd rather live in a Society dominated by the common man. You can choose to pretend that living in a government dominated society is not living in a corporate dominated society. Who do you think pays for the Dems and Rep establishment politicians?

Where do you see that the "the majority voting group being well-educated young people"?

This screen shot of the poll results shows that only 86 of the 800 polled were younger than 40 and does not have any information on how "well educated" anyone in the polling sample is.https://twitter.com/LoriGearyWSB/status/675335280866541569/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I understand how for certain people someone claiming to have simple solutions to complex problems can be appealing.

You mean the common man is supporting Trump? Say it isn't so. This is supposed to be a country run by the elites. The votes of the common man are supposed to be irrelevant.

A particular type of "common man" generally is anyway. Overwhelming white, a bit older and seemingly bitter towards both minorities and the privileged.

That these "common men" would support a billionaire is a bit ironic, don't you think?

Yeah, screw the old white guy. It isn't like this greatness of this country was built on white guys.

Yep, only white guys. You could remove any other group and the US would still have been great. Remove the white guys and it is a totally different outcome.
