Syria has been politically linked with Egypt for nearly as long as recorded history, but mainly because the history of this region is a history of empires and not nation states. There is a distinct Syrian cultural history and a Syrian version of Christianity, with a history back to the first century AD which is older than Western Christianity and a language close to that which would have been used by Jesus; Syriac was for a long time the language of learning in the region including Persia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syriac_Christianity

None of which, I suggest, was what Elador had in his tiny American mind.

Although i think this is a profoundly sad event, and that something needs to be done about the crisis in Syria, what has annoyed me is the use of this child like a meme for a certain part of society to use against another. So, my debate qu ...[text shortened]... is this.

Who is to blame for The babies being washed up on the beaches of Greece and Turkey?
God is to blame ( not a real god) the imaginary one they all keep fighting for or over.

I already explain what I meant.

You can turn a blind eye to the mess Hilary and Obama made of the Islamic world if you like.
Ah I see, so by "Africa" you meant...?

Who's to blame doesn't really matter.
How do we stop it from happening again and again and again... That's the appropriate question.

Refugees have been drowning for years.
And we've got hypocrital governments telling us we must stop the swarms of migrants and everyone claps along to the tune of the Daily Mail as if the 30's and 40's never bloody happened.

You are right! The question "who is to blame" is an attempt to "reframe" a debate away from uncomfortable truths - a distraction and therefore a lie - and turn it towards a politically safe and comfotable debate about abstractions (like where is Africa this week?) or even about domestic party politics (as above). Why are our governments allowing so many of our fellow humans to die horribly - that is the question followed by - when will they do what the people are asking for and rescue these unfortunates? One day it may very well be us in that position.
