@athousandyoung saidYou will see that I just pasted what was in a link I found, trying to abide by linkster rules, i plead innocence
It was the same source you got your numbers from that you didn't bother to list.

@shavixmir
The whole medical profession has been taken over by insurance companies here in the US.
@averagejoe1 saidThat’s because of very expensive private healthcare options.
There are a lot of asterisks for y'all to provide at your leisure, no argument, all separate thread subjects. Anyway, we win in salaries. UK is high on list, but Mick Jagger came here for heart operation. How come, you think?
Note that this list of people going as tourists (medically) to other countries does not include the sweet little countries you fellers like t ...[text shortened]... ey
United States
These are in alphabetical order, BTW. No Netherlands or New Guinea listed!!!!!!
Not for general healthcare for the masses.

@shavixmir saidFor the general healthcare of the masses you're likely to go on a waiting list and if your condition is painful, (eg. hip or knee replacement) you will stay on that waiting list until they literally torture you into going private.

Ideas so good you need to force people to follow them.
@wajoma saidInsert whirl wind of farting noises and stench as Wajoma talks complete and utter BS, as per usual.

I'd suggest: come to Europe to see how things work, but you're problably on Interpols koala fukking list of creeps and aren't allowed in.

@wajoma saidThat’s because social health care provision is based on those with the greatest need of treatment, if someone has to use a stick for a while so a child can get their cancer treatment then so be it.

If someone can go private and lose the stick then all the better for them and a less well heeled person can take their place in the queue
I’m sure you’ll have ridiculously redundant argument about evil governments in reply but hey ‘pigs gonna snort’ right 🤷🏻♂️

@wajoma saidI would venture that we have a world of choices in the US. That wold be a good study.....to list the countries that have the most choices in their lives, certainly US would top the list.

@averagejoe1 saidIt is just that I would hate to not have a choice of #1, doctor , and, #2, insurance package, which are non-existent in many other countries. The worst country would be those where one is on one program for everyone in the country, regarding hospital or doctor visits, the same line everywhere. Brrrrr

You only get to pick your insurance package in the US if you have money. Which you can do regardless if those who can't afford that get universal healthcare .
The employer picks what healthcare package they want for you. That is if they even provide it. Many employers can even switch providers after they hire you, without any input from you.
So, as always, what the fuk nonsense are you talking about?
@zahlanzi saidChoice. I thought I'd made that clear. Like, choose an employer that has a good insurance package. Duh?

"You only get to pick ins if you have money." Like, you get to pick between a hamburger at the deli, or a steak, depending on how much you can afford? Man you are genius. Where are you going with such a stupid statement?.
So, Zhalanzi says everyone should have the same insurance, I think? So, if I lived in Romania, I would have 'free' whatever, which means I am in line with people who I would rather not be in line with, to see a doctor I would rather not see. You really want to go down this road, Z? You never mention the beauty of choice. You get more choice the more you work for it. No brainer.
You seem to like the word 'universal'. Brrrrrrr. How about, freedom independence and liberty? Do you ever notice that none of you libs ever say those words?
Can't have dependence, literally required in some lesser countries, and have independence, liberty and freedom at the same time. Am I wrong? Can you comment on that? No emotion please, we have Sonhouse for that.
@zahlanzi saidA side note: I think that the 40M people in the USA who are truly destitute should be cared for by our government, including medical care. That should satisfy your concerns?

What else seems to be bothering you,, you who wants everything to be 'universal'. ? Sounds boring.
I could call my doctor today and have a new knee by Monday. Can you?

yes, that's definitely something one can reasonably do. Employers are just trampling each other to offer awesome insurance packages.
"Like, you get to pick between a hamburger at the deli, or a steak, depending on how much you can afford?"
Yes, in a civilized, wealthy country, picking health insurance is exactly like picking a steak. You can't afford chemo? Pick something you can afford, you poor loser, like dying. Dying of cancer is definitely cheaper than surviving it.
"So, if I lived in Romania, I would have 'free' whatever, which means I am in line with people who I would rather not be in line with"
Yes, rather than the alternative, of no line if you have no insurance.
"You really want to go down this road, Z? "
Yes
"How about, freedom independence and liberty?"
Yes, you get freedom and independence when you have guaranteed healthcare in a civilized country. Americans do not. An american isn't free when he is forced to stay in a job because otherwise he could not afford a doctor. An american is dependent on their employee and is subject to their whims. An american has to go to a specific hospital because otherwise the cost wouldn't be covered. I can break my leg in absolutely any city in Romania and go to the closest hospital, in an ambulance. You can't.
I am more free than you ever will be.
"You never mention the beauty of choice."
What choice. There is no "choice" if it's conditional on how much money you have. Everyone in a country with socialized healthcare can go see any private doctor they want if they have money. Who the fuk is stopping me from going to France or Italy or wherever?
The point is to have the possibility to go to a doctor when you don't have money. To not choose between living and bankruptcy. To negotiate drug prices. To not throw money to a middle agency just to do inefficient administration. To afford fukin ambulance rides to a hospital (the closest hospital, not the specific one covered by your specific insurance)
"Am I wrong?"
Yes. Often and egregiously
@zahlanzi saidFree to make some one else pay for your healthcare even though you may abuse and be reckless with your health and the person paying takes time to exercise and eat healthily.
I am more free than you ever will be.
zahlooney bamboozle you don't know what 'free'.
