There seems to be a hesitation to research facts before claiming outrageous things.
To add insult to injury people claiming what can be (easily) reserached are called liars.
e.g. @Metal-Brain claimed that the President had no command over the National Guard of the District of Coumbia.

Even Wikipedia has the correct infromation. It took me (as a non-native speaker) about a minute to find that infromation.

It's not research that's difficult it's finding sources that agree with stupid right-wing claims.

Metal Brain doesn't research to learn more about topics he scours the internet for confirmation bias.

I disagree. Real research is really hard. You need to incorporate and synthesize lots of information, some of which seems to conflict. You need to train your brain to entertain multiple possibilities, testing each one systematically. You must be ready to be wrong, and admit it.

Real research is a trained skill that takes years. Read, write, and reread before you can understand. Invest time to go deep in a field. Is not until this point that you can scrutinize literature in a way that does not immediately accept the authors conclusions. Defend your position in front of a room full of experts. It is hard.

Marauder is an expert at research obviously, I would not be surprised if he teaches a classroom full of research students.
But I wish he would leave it in the classroom . One would think he would give it a rest, and use the forum for fun like I do.

You alt-right-wing nuts don’t care about facts, science, research, experts… all you want is to vent your fears and expect people to believe you.

And original research such as demanded in grad school, is even more difficult.

Well,, you and Marauder, esp Marauder, expect us to believe you. So there. And we think that there is a place for all that science research experts, which can get lost in our discussions of opinions. Again my best example, Biden picks a group of people, not people in dire straits, but people graduating college and pays off their loans. To hell with the poor.
I ask for opinions on that, and get no sense out of any of you. Oh, Maruader recites the law ad nauseum and the subject gets lost in the shuffle.
You mention science above. We have a science forum. How about a law forum for Marauder, where he can pontificate, just introducing one statute after another.
Sonhouse can replace Marauder.

Yes it sure is. Whew.

let’s put it to the test then, eh:

- global warming is for a large part due to human behaviour? True or not true?
- Covid vaccinations are not pointless? True or not true?
- the moon landing wasn’t faked by Qanon and JFK? True or not true?

See. 3 answers are actually fact. And 3 answers are drivel made up by alt-right conspiracy nuts or pulled out of my arse with a pair of plyers… but could just as well have been made up by Joe Rogan on crack.

That’s the difference. You alt-righters no longer trust facts, scientists or experts. Only propaganda.

Or there’s always wiki, I think Ponderable’s point is it’s not hard to verify or debunk most claims made at this level

That I guess is what people consider research these days? The internet destroyed all our brains.

Plenty of folks out there are doing their own "research" with no scientific background to come to the conclusion that global warming is a hoax or vaccines cause autism or ET is real.

Googling something and skimming the Wikipedia is not research by any definition.

Right. So there is only one correct way. Cancel all else that you do , and go full time on it. I have always wondered about the deep state politics in Romania, crank up a thread Zahlanzi. Already canceled my golf game for today.

Really there is plenty in the news to discuss without a history lesson, etc etc, some of us would be at a disadvantage, such as me with not enough time to research. Busy busy, dont you know.
Just watch the telly, and find some news to discuss. Like forcing some citizens to pay off loans of other citizens, one of my favorites, or muscular men swimming with girls, or 'is Biden a dictator with all of his edicts', or "Trump a dictator...did you see the news!?!??" If you don't watch TV news, Just google Trump says dictator, did he mean it? We have to all assume we keep up with the news, that we have access to TV, so you don't have to google a thing.

You can quote expert opinions if you prefer. Real experts. The talking heads on foxnews who weigh their expertise based on their social media influencer profile and do everything for likes, clicks and eyeballs know nothing.
