It helps maximise manufacturer profits to tool for one gadget across all markets than 15 across all manner of economic zones. Inevitably one market leads to a lack of diversity which in turn tends to homogenise culture, even when ethnicity may suggest otherwise . The ethnic difference is entirely superficial, when people consume a broad diet of transnational goods.

But the alternate reality is going back to the way of the past where every country is a niche market and diversity of culture is more a constraint on the free availability of goods. Globalisation demonstrates that underneath all the labels of culture and ethnicity we are all basically the same. That’s not a message the nationalists of all stripes want to hear. Instead they attempt to construct societies on the basis of inherent difference. Ironically it’s the white nationalists who base their philosophy on identity and then spend all their energy decrying identity politics as being a divisive tool of the left…..but I digress….
