So much for Gordon Brown, and his view of there not being a fuel problem in the UK. My local petrol station, in Edinburgh, has today put signs up stating that there's no fuel. Now, I appreciate that fuel is a valued and limited source but for the Goverment to bang the price up to nearly £1 ltr. I personally think its an absolute joke, baring in mind that Tony and Gordon use Jags, Mercs and other large engine cars which WE have to pay for.

do not be upset ... that is nothing compared to the changes needed in the future.

So true. I would advice anyone not capable of rinding a bicycle, to start to learn that now, while you are still young enough to easily learn it. In - say - twenty years you'll thank yourself for it, the most convenient, cheapest and foremost healthiest way of local transport.

The government doesn't control fuel prices. Unless they've nationalised the oil companies, but I think I would have remembered that.

no - true - but they do control the taxes add to it - and therefore the end price

The goverment does control tax though, which is the main proportion of fuel costs in the uk
However the money has to come from somewhere, as to how wosely the money is spent is another matter

It would be a good tactic by the fuel oligopoly to make 50% of their stations run out of fuel. Then their customers would have to spend more fuel searching for garages with a good supply!

A lot of the stations have run out of fuel due to "panic buying"
Apparently the truckers are going to blockade fuel supplies again
This happened a year or so ago, fuel prices did actually drop but then went up two fold.

As far as i am aware nothing has happened yet, but even if fuel drops im sure road tax will increase or maybe a toll system will be introduced to compensate

Fuel for cars is the least of our worries, my friends.
You see, once the oil has run done, we'll switch to another fuel for cars (like water, gas, electricity, slaves...).

The current prices are fixed. The taxes are high because the governments know that people will dish out the money anyway and the alternative fuels are not being produced, to keep people to using oil.
Don't worry about it. Once the oil runs done, cars will once again run cheaper.

Nay. The problem with dropping oil reserves is...plastics...
Everything you see around you, as you read this message, is based on oil.
Now, what's going to happen when all this oil is no longer there and there are no more plastics?

Yes, tax is the largest element of the price of petrol, but the government isn't the cause of the upward spiral in the price. The tax element is a fixed %age.

So why is it then that so many other countries can provide/sell diesel fuel at much lower cost to thier populations ? Seems just one more good reason to leave the UK to me !
