If you are interested in having any input on the way ratings are calculated, please participate in this vote.

After voting I was given the chance to recast. I think this leaves the situation open to abuse. Is there a way of ensuring one member one vote?
Russ, is there no way of having a 3rd option? Rating system revamp etc.
I would like to see if anyone would want a totally different system (which is what I would like to see). These 2 options is not an improvement for me.

Even having a third option of the mean of the starting and ending rating would be better. Taking the rating from the start of the game would be disastrous.

Current rating should be an indication of how you're currently playing, but we should have a weighted average rating system which should be used when assigning points to opponents and for rating restricted tournaments etc. - eliminating most of the 'abuse' we hear of in the forums.

There is a technical problem with taking the ratings at the commencement of the games. It is theoretically possible for a player to get a negative rating. It is also theoretically possible for a mediocre player with a very low rating, taking on hundreds of games (at that low rating) to end up with a rating greater than ironman31 or even Kramnik!
The problem is that the calculation of the new rating does not adapt to the players updated rating. So a player rated 2400 could still be getting 16 points for beating a 1200 player beacause their ratings were identical when the game commenced.
With the current system, the 2400 player would receive no points for beating a 1200 player. Which, of course, makes rather more sense. It needs to be the way it currently is. You could quite easily break the delicate mechanism that prevents the rating system imploding/exploding.
Vote to retain the current system.
