The next year we went back to the same place at the same time of year and because we knew that we could survive outdoors all night we decided to camp.
"It'll be warmer in the tent and we'll have sleeping bags this time not to mention much cheaper than any Gite, hotel etc. What could possibly go wrong?"
Well, we got to the Verdon and there was 6" of snow everywhere. All the hotels and gites were shut - long past peak season.
Waking up in a tent, with all your clothes on, plus sleeping bag and anything you could find to wrap up with to find that ice has formed on the inside of the tent. Now that's camping.
