I'm kinda burnt on the whole Star Wars thing. I have played Battlefront I and II, and both Lego Star Wars games with my son on his PS2 to the point that I am really tired of the whole Star Wars universe. The fantasy themes are still interesting to me, so I was wanting to stay there for a while. I didn't have any idea that Guild Wars was a MMORPG. But I didn't ...[text shortened]... derstanding this lingo) when I tried out WOW, just PvE. That could present an issue for me.
Originally posted by BLReidFinal Fantasy are very enjoyable but if you like features such as free-roaming then don't bother because Final Fantasy games have very linear story lines, and it is usually until quite late in the game that you can freely explore the world.
Any opinions on Guild Wars, EverQuest, Diablo, or Final Fantasy 1-1000 (or so)? These also seem to be popular titles, and I assume some of you may have experience with them. Again, all comments appreciated.
Also the combat system really sucks, compared to more "serious" role-playing games.
Originally posted by BLReidTry Guild Wars. It's what I play. It's pretty good, though not perfect, and it has no monthly fee.
I recently did the trial of World of Warcraft and loved it. The problem is, I don't have a heck of a lot of time and so I can't justify the monthly subscription. I know there are about a million RPG's available for solo play on your own PC. My question is, are any of them even remotely comparable to WOW. The features that I liked were the handy toolbars, the was only $19.99 at Best Buy because the next generation in that series is now available.
EDIT - Starr, there is quite a bit of PvE in GW, especially if you buy Factions and Nightfall, though not as much as I'd like.
Originally posted by BLReidI have Morrowind on my X-Box. FANTASTIC game. One of the best RPGs I've seen.
Is that the 2nd Place Winner from the 2005 RHP Fantasy Baseball League chiming in? Thanks for the tip Starrman. Isn't Oblivion the next generation of Elder Scrolls? (ie. The follow up to Morrowind that I recently bought). If you like Oblivion, can you tell me if Morrowind was also good, or should I not bother to install it?
It's so good I got frustrated that it wasn't multiplayer.

Great to play while waiting for chess moves to come up here.
From what I've heard Final Fantasy 12 is amazing, Diablo 2 was great, but it's probably too old now, Oblivion is amazing - only seen it on the 360, stay away from WoW - unless you have a life to spare.
Originally posted by BLReidI played EQ way back in the day, and it was good then. Now there's EQ II and the original is showing its age in a bad way. I'd stay away from that, if I were you. After 5 years, I finally cancelled my subscription to EQ last month and also EQ II but I've only been playing that maybe 6 months.

I'm currently playing WoW and City of Heroes/Villains but you gotta remember, almost all these MMO's are around $15 a month.
It would be cool if we could get a player base going and decide on one game and create a guild of players in that game who are from RHP, but there's just too much out there to choose from and chances are we could never all agree on which one to do.
There's a new one out there I'd be interested in checking out called 9 Dragons, and its main focus is centered on Martial Arts fighting. I don't think it's out of Beta yet, but you can check it out at

a friend of mine commented that it's pretty damn amusing to watch petite little 5'3" me playing Doom 3 yelling "Die, mother******s!!"
😀

Here are some notes I threw together about various MMORPGs a while back and seem to have saved:
Crossfire – No PvP?
Darkfall Online – Potentially perfect. $$$. Not out yet; 4 years late; vaporware?
Dark Eden – Vampires vs. Christian Civilization. Looks pretty good.
EQ – Outdated, $$$
EQ II – No PvP, $$$
Eternal Lands – Looks good. PvP in special zones only. Interesting noncombat skills.
Minions of Mirth – 1 player = 6 characters, PvP?, $?
Planeshift – First person! EQ style Arena/Duel PvP only? PvE broken, mobs can’t attack. Graphics not finished. Awkward controls. Roleplay gestapos common.
Silkroad – Crappy PvE, excellent setting and incorporating PvP into setting.
WoW - $$$, Class balance?
