So we got roped into getting the new HTC HD7 Windows 7 phone. Have steep learning curve, finally getting used to it, a new message comes up: Need to update phone. So I called 611, the T mobile help line, they didn't really know what to do so connected me to Microsoft support.
So they say you need to install Zune software. Ok, how do I do that?
Just go to Zune.net, follow instructions.
Ok, it says in order to download Zune, you need to update Windows Media Center.
So go to the site that says update win media center.
Did that and an error message comes up, saying in order to update Windows Media center you need to update .net framework.
So the microsoft lady didn't know which one I needed, so went offline to get advice.
Comes back with 'go to the microsoft update site'.
Go to that, had to download Active x to do that. Did that and found no critical downloads.
Fished around and found in the 'Optional' download the ones I seem to have needed.
So downloaded all that stuff.
NOW I can download Zune, remember that, to update the win 7 phone?
So had to connect the HD7 to the USB port and a new list comes up with all kinds of buy this, buy that display, finally found the update button, hit that and a message comes up saying this will take about 20 minutes so don't disconnect or use phone during this time.
About 10 minutes later(Actually something faster this time!) it finishes.
So I had to do a second phone, but did not at least have to go through all that crap again, this time it updated in ten minutes or so.
Total time on the phone to T mobile and Microsoft: 147 minutes.
Just how I wanted to spend a monday afternoon. Don't you just LOVE Microsoft?
Originally posted by RevRSleekerLike I said, we were roped into getting these phones, wife had a flip, Razor, I had the same, we had a family plan with 4 of them, all 4 went back to the factory because they were unreliable, when they got back, mine worked but my wife's one died, that's when we were talked into these so-called smart phones.
Welllll, the fact they've made a bob or two from you sounds like they love you if not the other way around 😛 I'm afraid my 'fancy fone' only sees light of day when I'm away from home...otherwise a simple 'make and receive calls only' affair is just far more my cup of tea...
I see some things I like but the stuff you might want to really use costs ten bucks a month for each app, so I refuse to get involved in that crap. All I want is a reliable phone and all that touch sensitive stuff is so much fluff. Besides, the touch sensitive part isn't so sensitive, hitting the dam screen three or four times to get it to respond. Not a great selling point.

The post that was quoted here has been removedIf you plan to check out those pnones, make sure all the MS crap is up to date or you will face what I went through in the upgrade process. After all the trouble I had getting the first phone updated, the second one went through without a hitch so presumably the next batch will be uneventful also.
