Funny, a thread that was best showing what i needed to share with the public here, and that proved many points and was strong in both my case, and Tejos, now is gone? why? oh why? and see this isnt really fair? I think we should be able to know who alerts what? That way points can arise, i know this may lead to more debate, but not im left with a "duh" mist in the air, and i think that this whole situation just keeps getting worse!
Originally posted by skeeterIt won`t be before long, that we will end up with groups of forum vigilantes who just go around allerting whatever they don`t want to see. The trouble is that when people figure out what "n" is they can rule the forums. Everything will be allerted and subsequently closed down. 😕
Yea right. I suppose we should not understimate the combined "n" effect of the M&M cortage.

Well, Russ should be able to control this behaviour because when you alert, you have to put a reason for the alert. Also, he (Russ) can track who is doing all the alerting. You have to justify why you're alerting.
While I see your point, I also see how it can be monitored by Russ so that this sort of group ganging up on posts thing can be minimized.

I've never reported anything. Short of seeing someone solicit for sex with children or threatening to hurt someone, I can't see what could possibly be so offensive that it needs reporting. Everything else can be dealt with by the community, I would think.
Anybody know what was so wrong with this particular thread? I'm sure it must have been deemed sufficiently bad enough if Russ removed it.

Russ has some info in the Announcement forum about what would be allowed and what would be disallowed.
Also, he's got some moderation-bot info there as well.

Now the feud between skeeter and feivel is well document and has been burning hot, although sometimes slowly, for a long time. There are people backing each person and those that are on feivels 'side' must have alerted the post by skeeter. People on skeeter 'side' tend to be 'grown ups' and rather than alerting posts they find distasteful tend to deal with their own problems, and address the author of said distasteful post directly. Therefore, skeeters post was deleted before a discussion on her topic could be had.
Interestingly, the entire thread was deleted. I posted a message directly after skeeters and it is possible there were other posts in the thread when it was deleted (I went to bed). Does this mean that ALL the posts in the thread in question had been alerted n times? I highly doubt it, but you never know. If all the posts in the thread were deleted but only skeeters had reached n, I'm left to wonder if robomod is now making value judgements on a thread based on the alerts of the original post.

What do you mean, you went to bed?
Just kidding.
Curiouser indeed.
Wouldn't have been a problem if IM had been used regarding the original question.
I would assume ( maybe not a good idea ) that Russ is also monitoring what the mod-bot is doing. At least in some respects.

I guess, in the end, it comes down to skeeter being banned from the use of the word Feivel.
I think, however, that it could be argued that robomod did its job in this case though. Just because I do not like the result hardly renders our robotic friend useless. Skeeter posed an interesting question, but it was one that was going to lead to a lot of controversy and not everyone has the stomach for it. People alerted her question...controversy avoided. I guess you call this a success!? Either way, I'll bet Russ considers it a success! 😉 I can only imagine the fall out over skeets question if it was left up.
So, some mud slinging was avoided at the expense of open communication...you make the call.
