Care to nominate any terrible French actors?
Out of all the French actors who've made it to hollywood, I'd say Jean Réno.

Hey Seitse! 😀 So what is acting, then, but making a fictional role believable to an audience?

😏 The best actors, then, pick roles that they can play without effort and make their own.

(And why has no-one brought up BigOil's hand-puppet, George Dubbya? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 - without a doubt that guy is one seriously bad actor both on and off the stage. Right up there with Arnie!)
hey, widge! it's good to read you again! 😀

Well, I don't know if portraying oneself has more merit than really changing to portray credibly a whole new person, i.e. Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull"

Brad Pitt is great sometimes: Kalifornia, 12 monkeys and the great Fight Club.
I'd add Johnny Handsome to that list.

Bit like a French Bruce Willis?

Jean Claude Van Damme is an execrable Francophone actor.

Agreed. What about Hugh Grant? Can't act for toffee...
I actually started out by finding him funny in "4 weddings and a funeral" but now I can't stand him either.

And how could I forget: Kevin Costner. Yikes!

He's better than Bruce Willis, most actors are 🙂

Van Damme is as bad as Sylvester Stallone.

Isn't 'Eyes Wide Shut' comparatively recent?
Yes. That's why I said that he was once worse.

The only time I found him funny was in Bitter Moon.

Yikes indeed. Ugh.

Stallone completely ruined the remake of Get Carter by appearing in it.

But these guys are still worth watching because they're funny... unintentionally.

I like some of his earlier stuff. Nikita and Leon, to be precise...

I know what you mean. But today's real unsung heroes are the people who appear in daytime infomercials. Too funny by half.

There are some terrible actors out there, but I particularly dislike the people who make a career out of being themselves, or a very limited range, then people worship them as great actors:

1. Tom Hanks.
2. Sir Anthony Hopkins.
3. Kevin Spacey.
4. Judi Dench.

Can't think of any more right now.

Kevin Spacey has a limited range? 🙄

In all the films I've seen him in, yes.
