The biggest "A" list leading man ever to hit Hollywood that couldn't act at all was John Wayne. Gary Cooper is a close second.
Wayne and Cooper can't be included They were just stars and without a doubt held their own.
Originally posted by Vargthats an unfortunate element to the industry: in order to make money in the acting, you need to deliver the same (or a similar) "product" time and time again. That way people will keep coming to see them, because they like what that particular performer brings to their roles. That's why you see more and more people making it big, who have no real discernable talent (i would like to take this opportunity to re-nominate Orlando Bloom, and hope that he gets hit by a bus today and nobody has to suffer through any more of his infuriating brow-furrowing)
There are some terrible actors out there, but I particularly dislike the people who make a career out of being themselves, or a very limited range, then people worship them as great actors:
1. Tom Hanks.
2. Sir Anthony Hopkins.
3. Kevin Spacey.
4. Judi Dench.
Can't think of any more right now.
peace out.🙂

There is no competition - Steven Seagal takes the biscuit.
I love it when he gets serious, absolutely hysterical!
Wow, just read he's making "Under Siege 3: Plane Danger". Hope he sheds a few pounds or he'll end up paying for two seats 🙁
Maybe you are a bit rough on Tom Hanks though, he started out in comedy with such films as Turner and Hooch and the Money pit but then he also did films like Philedlphia, Forest Gump, The Green Mile,
The Terminal, Saving Private Ryan. Those movies changed my perception of him as a lightweight into a real actor. Those roles were not easy ones to play and were very diverse. I think he did a very good job in all those films.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Hayden Christensen- played Aniken Skywalker- the young adult. ugh. clearly the worst. Of his performance in the most recent Star Wars movie, Rolling Stone said something like, "to call his performance 'wooden' is an affront to puppets everywhere."

hey, widge! it's good to read you again! 😀
Well, I don't know if portraying oneself has more merit than really changing to portray credibly a whole new person, i.e. Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull"
