I accept the fact that this site has to live from subscription and advertising. I am a member of another chess site and as such choose not to pay for a subscription here.

That I can see advertisements is one thing. Pop-ups and pop-unders are less desirable, but I can live with them. Especially when pop-ups can be blocked. Now only for those annoying pop-unders.

What I absolutely _can not_ stand are those advertisements that are showing alert windows about something or other and ask me if I want to install software. What is even more annoying is that, when I navigate away from such a page, I get asked once again. But what is _really, really_ unacceptable is almost forcing me to install the software when clicking cancel. The active window is closed, a new one is opened and a download is automatically started. Luckily I got those blocked... I am talking about ads for ErrorSafe and DriveCleaner or whatever it is called.

Any comments ?

Here's a comment for you: Learn something about web advertising and malware before shooting your mouth off and blaming other people for your lack of home computer security knowledge, 'tard.

0. Like I said, I know ads are necessary for keeping this site and others up. But some of these ads are just too "agressive" to my liking. I justed wanted to get some extra attention to these, so hopefully these kind of ads get omitted... It's very annoying getting these kind every third or fourth page. It will put me off and if so most likely others as well. Which is bad for business.

Regarding your comments about malware:

1. Have you seen Russ' comment in that thread of a new ad rotation where he actual says that these things are happening and he says he will look into the matter. Looks to me, like it has not been cleared yet.

2. I know how to keep my computers clean. It's part of my daily job.

3. It's happening on several computers regardless of whatever protection is running: Defender, AdAware, Norton... I checked...

4. I clean up one of my PC's every week. And I can report that this kind of thing is happening on a clean install with all the latest patches installed as well.

No need for namecalling...

I agree with you though. Advertising like that is a menace. Like email
spam. I have a very simple solution to the problem, and I'm dead serious
right now. Someone should write a program that allows us to track down
spammers and companies responsible for letting these ads through and
then send a killer squad over. The world will be a much better place for
everyone with those buggers gone. šŸ˜

Yes, no need to say it: I'm an evil genius.

Drivecleaner is malware and needs to be removed.
I presume you are using Internet Explorer - right?

Can you let me know if you are still seeing pop-up/under ads? I have tried to block them, but cannot effectively test if I have been successful.

Thanks,

-Russ

(If you do still get a pop-up ad on this site, please save the source code of the current html page and then contact me please. Thanks.)

Subscribe, and all your troubles go away. As Mr. Friedman said there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Subscribing wouldn't stop someone from being infected with drivecleaner.

On the other hand, there are plenty of free anti-malware products available that may help.

Don't try and impose your liberal views on me, hippy. I'll get my point across anyway I see fit.
