GB,

Sorry, but that's BS. All your 'conversations' are about you. In the short time I have been reading through the GF, it has become clear that you are in the grip of rampant narcissism. You'd do better to come clean and rephrase your question so as to reflect your real concern "Why do people persist in attacking ME?'

Well, it's not hard to see why. You come across as desperate for recognition and acknowledgement - even if it is negative. It's the attention you crave. Also, you only seem to be interested in yourself and having people respond to your nuggets of folksy faux wisdom. And when people don't respond in the desired way, you chuck a hissy fit and declare you are leaving, only to return a day or so later. That's just another way of trying to get attention, as is all this complaining. Just for once, try saying something real, something not focussed on you. Maybe if you made a habit of this, you'd find yourself attacked less often.

Personally, I have nothing against you, but I can see why you get attacked so persistently - it's just a natural reaction to evidence of a massive ego which, unfortunately, even this post will play a part in feeding.

Have a wonderful day

Thanks, Sicilian Smaug. You're okay in my book.

Hi, Worm. Valid point. Only question left begging might be the objective definition of "act like an ass." Subjectivity may reduce it to 'not our kind'.

Take exception, Red, even though your reply was in good humor. Any such artificial compensatory scheme purposes to deal with symptoms only.

Thinking it through and breaking it down logically: (1) All general forum attacks are either 'provoked' or 'unprovoked'. (2) Provoked attacks may

be legitimate counter attack responses of self defense or simply garden variety overreactions to the presence of a post by some member who,

for whatever the reason, another member(s) can't stand. (3) Motives underlying 'unprovoked' attacks, in my view, may be the least understood.

Smaug, you often mention tools in your posts. Most recently your desire to pull my typing fingers out with pliers. You an auto mechanic or carpenter?

if you'd ask any of my friends, they'd tell you I'm harder on them than other people. that's also why they come to me with their problems. it might sting a little, but they also get the unvarnished truth. tough love, brutal honesty. the hardest I'm on myself, no wiggling room there.

if you have any problems with character assessment, you can always ask me. I can cut through rhetorics like a knife through flesh.

Besides tools your posts also routinely allude to medications, bodily ailments, fluids and parts... 'aloe vera', 'range of medication',

'arsenic', 'pepto bismol', 'benzyipiperazine', 'ebola and marburg strains mutated are more virulent', 'kleenex flu', 'fully aware of

dangers of viruses', 'bypass surgery', 'remove vocal cords', 'pickled fetus', 'rectal cancer', ' blood and vomit', 'arm tumors' in recent

weeks. Getting the impression that you may also hold down a part time job in a hospital or some other related medical facility.

Edit: Just this afternoon came across your excellent post in reply to Rusty. Sheds considerable light on the conversational topic of this thread...

-Discussions in forums can often get heated, but while you may take issue with another poster's viewpoint, you must not resort to personal attacks or abuse. Do not post offensive or inflammatory remarks that stray beyond the bounds of reasoned debate. Calling another poster an "idiot/prat/gimp/fool/pleb/moron/... }
will leave a post subject to immediate removal.

Something like this perhaps? But more extensive.

Question:

Why should Red take exception to my idea?

Red has already expressed light hearted approval of your idea. I took mild exception, banking off his post simply to further delineate the topic.

Edit: Realizing the implied but omitted pronoun was the culprit. "I take exception, Red..."

would have eliminated your impression that a suggestion was being made directly to him.
