EDIT: you were likely reading the 4.7 version. 4.8 is much better and is the current version as you'll see in the link.

care to explain?

I have the free version and it doesn't actively scan for spyware. You have to do it manually. It says so right on the screen.

EDIT: I'm talking the anti-spyware version here.
Resident Shield - I assumed you meant a virus scanner as we're talking anti-virus here, not anti-spyware.

you're basing your opinion of avast from 2 years ago? jebus, get with the times.

The new AVAST is excellent. Go to Cnet.com and read the reviews.
Bleh, who cares?
AVG has caught the few virus threats I've had - probably about 5 or so in the last 2 years.

Why fix something that ain't broken?

Well, I'd rather have a virus for one day then a anti-virus program for years
LOL

Like the good doctor said - get back to us when your documents are erased, personal data compromised and even your Windows installation corrupted.

Why take that type of chance?

They'be both pretty much the same. The only real difference is the interface.

Personally, I prefer AVG's interface but Avast sounds piratey - it's a tough choice!
