Tribal stage is the most fun, apparently.

Flight simulators are also popular. Especially the Flight Simulators of Death.

we used to use a really nice jet fighter sim when the big kid was little. but i tried the more recent version (Jetfighter IV) and found it too hard. too many keys to learn and difficult to steer with arrow buttons.

they like Golly (for Conway) but they don't go looking for it. straight to Wesnoth. before that it was Altitude, a downloadable steampunk aeroplane arcade shoot-em-up.

For the older kid, what about games like Age of Empires or Warcraft? Action, manageable complexity, satisfying crunching sounds?

i think he was playing WOW but for some reason got tired of it. maybe the new kids are just fodder for the guilds.

Forget that cash cow WOW, get him Warcraft 3 and the frozen throne extention, excellent games from before Blizzard sold their souls.

I play Warcraft 2 when it came out -- great fun -- might just have to get 3 -- for the kids --
