I found out recently that my great grandparents were Romani, which makes me part gypsy. I'm still trying to get confirmation of this, but it certainly explains the dark hair and eyes, wanderlust and love of music. Anyway, I'm interested to know if anyone knows anything about the Roma and can point me in the right direction for further research etc.
They're little beings with wings who fly about and make wishes come true, aren't they.
I believe Tinkerbell was one of the most famous of them.

Oh. I thought you meant pixies.

You've been watching America's Most Wanted too much. Gypsies steal less than Texans.

Go live for a while in Romania or any Balkan country. The gypsy culture still quite alive in that corner of Europe.

Any culture that jams with tambourines is o.k. in my book.

And barefoot gypsy girls are kinda hot.

You obviously never read the magazine Viz in the early 90's. They had a cartoon strip called the Thieving Gypsy Bast*rds, which was eventually withdrawn due to protest by the gypsy community. It used to make me laugh though, not as much as its Top tips section, or famous people on the toilet, it was real adolescent toilet humour.

i would recommend the book "bury me standing" by isabel fonseca. excellent historical background on the rom and a more contemporary view (1995 at least) of how they exist today in eastern europe.

Is VIZ still going?
Pathetic Sharks were good, and Black Bag. I know too many fat slags for them to be funny anymore...

Yes I think it is, although I've not picked one up for years. I also liked Post man plod the miserable old sod. I've seen a cartoon version of the fat slags on the men & motors channel but didn't think it was much good, but then I suppose it is really humour for your 16-20 year old bracket. You ever read fat freddy's cat & fabulous furry freak brothers comics? They are real class & very funny.
