I use a PC for work and an Apple for home. From what I can make out a PC is easier to manage as a networked computer, to manage user profiles, lock down access to components of windows, and have a competitve market for spares.
For home use, i.e. managing photo's, cutting DV footage, music files, and connectivity I can not fault my Ibook. The s/w included is fantastic, and having a central DVD creation program makes so much sense. For creating movies it took me 2 hours from sctatch to learn how to make a 15 min movie, add music, and merge all my cuts with nice special effects.
I think many people who try a mac have the problem of trying to use it like a PC, it took me a few weeks to make the subltle move away from this.

a) He stole the Graphical User Interface (click, drag-and-drop, folders etc.).
b) When not using Internet Explorer, yes.
I have both PCs and Macs at home and the Macs are MUCH more reliable. I have constant trouble with windows XP and its applications, and for ease of use you cannot beat Mac OS X.
A good book to read about this and other stuff computer business related is Accidental Empires: How the Boys of Silicon Valley Make Their Millions, Battle Foreign Competition and Still Can't Get a Date by Robert X. Cringely
There's some funny Bill Gates anecdotes for those who hate him, but he's not political (so to speak) about it - he calls Steve Jobs a sociopath as well.

Originally posted by zeeblebotI have Used Mac, Windows and Linux. And I gotta agree with CenterNut. Mac Is way better then windows if your gonna Edit Videos, pictures, Or record music, any studio work, or music files work, or converting VHS to DVDs etc. for that purpose I found that Mac is quite faster. Other then that Mac is useless. It aint compatable with nothing.
linux ... see www.distrowatch.com ...
Linux has to many bugs for me, crashing almost as much as windows. and allot harder to network computers. And anything special you want to do, you have to dowload pluggins and etc.
Windows Rocks! Simplest to use, compatable with anything. Lots of help support. most people use it. no special software to install everytime you install new hardware.
Easy to network.
I never had a virus on it, I dont get popups, And It dont hardly crash at all. But of course I dont click on advertisements, or look at porn. which likes to install stuff on your computer.
At the end of the day, it comes down to horses for courses.
The average home or networked office user will use Windows (whichever version), because it is easy to install, specialised software is easy to find and install - and the same goes for peripherals. PC's are easy and cheap to upgrade and most people feel comfortable using MS products - bottom line, they are amazingly user friendly.
Linux works great as a server system, but it's not designed for the average home user.
Unix (and all the different flavours of it) also has it's place in the market. Linux is eating up it's share as a server application, especially on the web, but Unix still gets used much in industrial controller systems. At my dad's plant they only upgraded their HP-UX system after 13 years because the HDD crashed and they thought: "What the hell, let's upgrade the software as well."
I've got no experience using a Mac, but apparently multimedia designers swear by it.
most microsoft web servers are, alledgedly, running on apache. but then again, so do all the other servers of the world, http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2005/10/04/october_2005_web_server_survey.html
personally, i have windows on my laptop but it can be a bit tempramental at times. i have a mac at home which is nicer for surfing the web, and as all i really do on a computer is surf the web, use maple and do a bit of programming then mac is nice for the web, and i can't get maple for a mac for free so a PC is used there.
however, as i am not at home at the moment i can't use my mac for the web. therefore, i have to use my laptop. however, last year i did a module on internet programming, and we were shown just how awful IE really is! it's the most used browser, but it's not W3C compliant if you are using it on a PC. if, however, you are using it on a mac then it is W3C compliant. why is this? it makes no sense!

Thanks for everones opinion.
I have decided to go against Apple.
Based on someone saying only get an apple if you are a designer.
