Are all people who do payroll really this stupid? God I hope not…

Last week I got a pay check that was short. I look at the stub and it has my hours listed and my rate of pay right next to it. I grab my calculator and add the numbers up and they are short by $472.00 wingwangs!

I go into the payroll department at my shop and they tell me that they had over paid me two weeks ago and that they have made a correction. Fine I say. What happened? They tell me they actually paid me for 39 hours at my regular rate and for one hour at my truck number…472?!!

I git mad and ask them how they could do that, and why didn’t I get a note in my check explaining that THEY had made a mistake with an explanation? They get mad at me and act like I’m a friggin moron because I am mad about it and did not figure out that they had made a mistake and why.

I don’t know about you, but I get so tired of having to suck up mistakes made by others. When I make a mistake I own up to it and apologize if necessary and fix the problem, I don’t make people feel like an idiot for some thing I did wrong.

Retaliation:
I billed 2 hours against their department with a written complaint explaining what happened; that if they had simply sent a note or made a phone call I would never have had to set foot in their little stupid world.

Interesting that you didn't get out your calculator when they overpaid you.

I work a ton of overtime and do not have a check that is salary. My checks can vary more than what would be my normal pay for 40 hours by $200-$1300 more. Normaly I do, but of course not that week.

Oh that’s right. Your one of them isn’t you? Do you make mistakes perhaps by looking out your window, daydreaming and pay someone an hour pay by mistake by the same rate you paid your male hooker the night before?

I check mine every month. At least 4 times a year it's wrong. My fav was when they paid me 1750 hours overtime instead of £1750 london allowance. And it was £1750 per year.

It took them 4 goes and 6 months to get it right!!!

But it's always the computors fault never the ar$e operating it.

i use to be a salaries officer, book keeper wages jerk sorry clerk.
management does not like you sorting out tax rebates and helping out the hard worker or any labourer. I enjoyed phoning the tax office and getting the money sorted out, but every time i did this , the management use to complain. I would not mind if i had tonnes of work to do but i did this when all the work had been done..even the other wages jerks had a poor attitudes to the labourers.

But that week you only had a basic 40 hour week.

"They tell me they actually paid me for 39 hours at my regular rate and for one hour at my truck number…472?!! "

Surely even a dumb trucker could work out he'd been overpaid or is 40 hours at say $10 an hour = $400 too hard for your little brain to calculate compared to 39 hours at $10 an hour plus $472 =$862?

It is not always as easy as it might sound. What do you want to bet if they had underpaid they would never have told Ringtailhunter? See it goes both ways.

Many trucking companies take out all kinds of deductions that the average trucker might not be able to catch until they on time off. Many have to pay truck expenses with their own money then the Company tries to show it as income again instead of reimbursement. Causing the drivers to have their money tied up doing company business without interest. Because drivers sometimes get paid with debit cards or even automatic deposits. It makes it very difficult for them to keep record.

Some drivers don't even see their deposit details for weeks at a time. I don't know all the details here but Trucking Companies are real good at sticking it to the driver. It is nothing like a normal 9 to 5 job with everything the same every week. It would be easy for them to swindle him and confuse him. They could do it to you too. They can be real pros's.

Generally, payroll doesn't attract the cream of the crop.

You sure noticed ASAP when it was short, though.
