The English press attempted to indirectly blame it on the presence of the Aussie wags who as you know travel with the Australian team. Surely the best psychology after a heavy defeat is to go to ones spouse and be comforted by them, to see ones children and to take perspective. In this regard the Aussies have it completely correct.

as I said, it may matter to the Aussies
I suppose it would be nice to win 4 home Tests vs Oz in a series for the first time.
But it is a minor target. The main (and only) aim of the series is already achieved.
Victory.
Originally posted by st dominics previewI'm being honest. It doesn't matter for the series. It's huge for Australian cricket going forward. It would be the first time England have won 4 at home( or whatever record).
of cause not
but let's be honest
it doesn't matter
And up until start of the third test , commentators- English and Australian- have been writing England off.
I thought the 131 in the 1st innings of 3rd test was the Aussies bad outing. But to follow that up with a first innings of 60 in the next test was incredible.
But was it just those two games?
Will things go back to the 'norm' or is this England clambering to the top?
btw, the Aussies have reached 3/287 at the end of day 1 of the fifth test.
Aged 16 'Sports Study' question
'The Aussies are doing OK in the last, meaningless Test of the series. At what point do we become even slightly concerned?'
a) ah, bless, they deserve something after the misery of the last 2 tests.
b) we aren't bothered, a little hung over after Nottingham
c) oh, let Clarke, Rogers, Siddle, Johnson finish on a high in a Test that doesnt matter
Ans ~ all 3

I wonder what you call the 'norm'?
Going back 10 years to 2005, there have been 7 Ashes series, of which England have won 5 and the Aussies 2 !
Admittedly before that, you had won the previous 8 (!!!), but come on, that's ancient history!

All cockblockerry aside, I do hope the Aussies and English adapt better to each others conditions so we see more competitive series'.
it is all being met over here with a 'so what' shrug, or 'doesn't matter now'
Your last point is a fair one, since 2001 only 1 series (by England, I have to say!) has been won by the away team
Generally in Tests, it is becoming very difficult to 'win away'. unless playing a truly weak nation (Zim, Bang etc)
Originally posted by st dominics previewYep. Consistently winning away is the hallmark of a truly great modern team.
