Phillip Rogers, 63.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A man has been charged with assisting with an attempted suicide after telling his wife to kill herself during an argument and loading the gun for her, deputies said.
Phillip Lee Rogers, 63, was arrested on Friday after an investigation into his wife shooting herself in September.
Osceola County deputies were called to the couple's home on Sweet Plum Court in Kissimmee on Sept. 19. Deputies said Rogers told them he and his wife, Tammy Rogers, had been arguing and drinking that day when he told his wife, "Why don't you just kill yourself?"
Tammy Rogers then asked her husband for a gun, but it did not go off when she fired it, so Phil Rogers loaded the gun for her and she shot herself, deputies said.
Tammy Rogers was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center. She is now limited in her day-to-day functions and cannot care for herself.
Seems unreasonable to me to convict the poor old bastard for assisting in his wife's suicide when all he did was load the gun.

your an idiot
Seriously though, I agree the man should be held responsible in some way. In general though, I do believe people should have the right to kill themselves, and, if necessary seek assistance in doing so. At the same time, I believe that it is our moral imperative to try to persuade others from committing such an act.

But, what if the person who wanted to kill themselves was your teenage daughter who had just broken up with her boyfriend? Would she have the right to do so?

Ultimately a person makes their own choice. This is something I have struggled with myself (suicidal depression). It never really goes away, but, each person must live their own life.
If I told you right now I was going to kill myself, what would you do?

Honestly, I think what he did was dubious morally, but criminal? I'm not sure and my instinct is to say no.
Where do you draw the line is obviously the issue here.
Okay, I think it's criminal, because she was drunk and emotional and wanted to kill herself, so I believe that the prosecution can argue a case of diminished capacity, i.e. wouldn't have been able to kill herself if not for him helping her. It's also very rare for women to commit suicide by shooting themselves. Something clearly wasn't right in her head.
@hoh: I asked you about the right to kill yourself, you mentioned it in the post that I quoted. I didn't ask you what you would do, I could have guessed that much, I wanted to know if you thought your hypothetical daughter had the legal right to do it, because you stated "I do believe people should have the right to kill themselves".
I believe that only certain people should be awarded that right and that they should have go through a judge to get permission, i.e. legalised euthanasia.
