Ok, this finally proves that I do have a drinking problem, but none the less I shall proceed anyway.
So, the Australian flag has six stars on it right? One for each of the states; Western Australia, Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
Well here I sit in front of my pc on a Friday night waiting for someone to move in my games. My mind wanders and I take a closer look at my beer can. I am drinking Foster's tonight (only £5 for eight at my local shop 😀) I notice that according to the beer can Foster's is Australia's famous beer. Then I notice the stars on the can and count five, yes five, not six as on the flag of Australia but five.
Why is this so, have Foster's missed a state by accident? Do they not like the Northern Territory or something?
I was just hoping somebody could enlighten me on this subject, then I can drink my beer with a settled mind 🙂
Edit: maybe that is why the beer is so cheap, it's a cheap imitation of the real stuff?😕

The Commonwealth Star or Star of Federation, central in the third quarter or lower hoist, has seven points to denote the six states and the combined territories of the Commonwealth. The seventh point was added in 1909.
Originally posted by rbmorrisAh, so it does not represent the flag of Australia but the southern cross of the southern hemisphere?

It just seems strange, that Foster's wouldn't just add another star to the can to make it the flag of Australia, but hey ho.
Well my mind is now at rest and I can continue to get slowly drunk without this nagging thought in the back of my mind 😵😵😵
Originally posted by sangfroidSorry brother, no one, i repeat no one in Australia drinks Fosters. It is our revenge on the world, along with "Neighbours".

Really? Nobody... at all? It does say on the tin Australia's famous beer? Well I guess you must all drink Carling then 😛

And Fosters is crap although the stuff in the UK is not the same as the Fosters rubbish in Australia.
The Northern Territory is not a state? Then what is it? It appears on topological maps as a state with boundaries etc...?
The Foster's over here is pretty good, compared to most other beers, the biggest rival would be Carlsberg. Having said that, the Foster's here is brewed in this country just with Australian markings on the tin, not like we export any of your rubbish 😛
