Having been banned from the forum for a short time, I now see how ridiculous the system is.
Maybe it's understandable [whether it is right is another question] to not inform engine users of the evidence for why they were banned but with forum bans it is downright bad manners, to put it mildly. It is also non productive as the banned person simply knows they are banned, not why or which post supposedly caused the ban and hence, how can they be sure they will not repeat the heinous crime?

Furthermore the mod and feedback situation is virtually non existent as far as communication is concerned. I can only assume the people who run things don't care about members views much.To be expected by us non sub underlings I guess. [I did actually get a reply but it's sort of irrelevant now the bans finished]

I have heard some say that the mods get so many alerts and messages that they can't deal with everything; well why not get more mods if it's that bad. [there's plenty of subs willing I'm sure]

nb. I do agree with the principal of moderating bad/offensive language done in a fair way.

Something more than a proclamation that posts will be removed NEEDS to be done; We all already knew about that.

I believe we need a checkbox which people tick if they aren't going to use foul language in the forums .

a player exercising good manners in all things, language, sportsmanship, choice of avatars, etc....will not be banned...just ask
yourself if you are playing chess in a tuxedo or your underwear ?

And herein lies the problem, as far as I was concerned I was, and nobady has told me where ,when or how I wasn't, if that was the case. Simply automaton-informed that I was banned, for all I know it could've been a case of mistaken identity or some other cock-up. Oops, am I allowed to say that? 😏

So there goes that theory.🙁

I agree with this up to a point. In the forum context, there is no reason of principle to not inform people why they were banned.

There is, however, the practical issue of having to spend the time of explaining what would often be patently obvious.

I find it hard to believe there will be many instances where people don't know perfectly well what they did to walk close to the 'line' of unacceptable posting. They may not have known they were going to cross over the line, but I bet they knew they were somewhere near it.

Whenever I ask a mod a question I always get an answer.
Perhaps it's because I'm a regular customer.

Just swear more often and I'm sure you'll find your popularity amongst mods increase.

Maybe there was no "where", "how" or "when" to you being banned.
Maybe, just maybe, you were banned because you "are".

mhmmm...

Maybe the reason for being banned is that you replied on a message and quote some offencive language in that message.😳

I don't know if it's possible, but it's an idea.

The reasons for banning may very well be beyond the grasp of mere mortals such as ourselves. Who are those moderators anyway? Is there a way to find out who's lurking in the background, handing out bans at will?
