Yes, I just read it again, strange phrase. Somebody takes it for granted that male midwives will dominate the scene. The pay is still low, at least in Sweden, thus the female domination so far. I guess they meant a growing number.
This is about as sweeping generalization I can make about men/women in the workplace:
Women have a propensity to involve themselves in occupations that deal directly with the client.
Medical/dental is heavily female, Waitresses, fast food counter workers, bartenders, librarians.
I am sure you can see others too. One that is strangely missing here is car salesperson (US) and I believe
that is because it is a pressure job and women prefer not to involve themselves there.
Just opinions.
@earl-of-trumps saidI think we can safely say that as long as jobs are mostly done by women, lower wages are a consequence. Women in general, if I may generalize, are often concerned about other women's situation and prefer to fight 'one for all, all for one', and that is sometimes an obstacle.
