That's too hard of an answer.
How about surprisingly good scifi book?

In which I would say, Kiln People by David Brin was surprisingly good.

dunno about best, but some of my favourites were:
Heinlein - The Puppet Masters, Starship Troopers
(pity both were so badly turned into films)
Wyndham - The Kraken Wakes, Day of the Triffids
Asimov - the Robot stories
Niven - Ringworld series
Dick - loads of stuff

What year did that one come out? I heard about it but have seen nothing in the stores yet.
One of the great ones has to be Enders Game by Card.
Of course Phillik K dick is high on the list.
Anything he wrote basically!
Don't forget Olaf Stapleton, "Starmaker" and his earlier one,
Last and first men.

Do you think Asimov went a book too far in trying to tie various other books into the Foundation series?
