Today all my boards are blank - and the log on page with other people's public games - with them I don't get to see a board at all!

Try emptying your cache.
Otherwise just guess where the pieces are.

the reason for this is that the pieces are magnetic. i recommend taking a fairly strong magnet and waving it slowly in front of your monitor. if that doesn't work, move the magnet back and forth around the area of your hard drive... i found a few pieces down there the other day.

A bucket of water can help sluice the more stubborn ones from the back of the monitor as well ... (make sure the water is nice and soapy)
