I would suggest you sign up for the 7 day trial and see. You will be disappointed as the interface looks like winboard. You can kibitz games including GMs but in PlayChess you have an option to add a kibitzer i.e. a Fritz engine to see what the GM is trying to do.

When you take the ICC trial tell me how to replay the game you have played automatically or to have Fritz look at the game while you are still online. Also tell me why those blue dots(computers) are there? Where is the engine room.

I never use the ducats feature just as I wouldn't pay for GM lessons on ICC. Thats an extra that if you have books or videos you don't have to take.

What is so important about an engine room?

Wow, what aren't you getting? The 7 day trial offers virtually no features.

You need to sign up to play now, basically - I think you can play against other people using the trial...which is basically nobody and the games are unrated. Which interface did you use? BlitzIN or Dasher?

Engine rooms are for people that can't play chess by themselves, I think the PC engine room is a joke - plus I don't understand the point - who cares if your engine can beat a different engine?! I think Dasher allows Crafty to analyze right when you're done, and I have Fritz which I can use to open the game and have it analyze right after.

The Andrew Martin show now costs Ducats - pretty much everything does. It's bullcrap. To watch Seirawan talk about games going on in major events costs Ducats! It drives me nuts, I don't think ICC charges MORE money for that.

Plus the help on PC is trash.

A kibitz feature would be the greatest.

cmsmaster you are trolling. Sign up to the 7 day trial and you will see its only limitation is 7 days you can do everything else a member can. The telnet type thingie was written a long time ago by some dude who was unhappy with ICC charging so he started FICS. That's the reason its so ancient, like the "free" chessbase light.

Edit: The use of an engine room, is so that you can play humans and computers can play computers.

Ok. He's bringing legitimate concerns about a chess site, so he's trolling? You need to haul yourself in.

This would be so cool if there was anybody on it right now 🙁 And I hate to nitpick something that must of taken alot of hard work to do, and it's only been out for a few days, but a chat feature (not now, in the future) would maybe be nice. I could talk to myself while i wait for someone to log on and play a game.

what are you talking about?? you can easily do everything you claim can't be done on ICC. the interface is pretty much same as FICS with babaschess (although babaschess really is somewhat better). in fact, FICS was created as copy of ICC when it went commercial. it's nothing like winboard.

I have tried playchess only on the free client, but at least that was light-years behind ICC and FICS. is there some better client for it if you subscribe?

I just put online a screen capture from dasher with post game analysis, so you can take look what kind of stuff is available:

the graphics are of course customizable. I happen to like the way CTS looks, so I've customized my board to look the same on FICS, ICC, RHP, winboard and CTS.

It's a different skill, just like all time controls.
