We're thinking about buying a Bose Acoustic Wave Music System II. My old system took up way too much room and the Bose looks quite compact. However, I've never had any experience with Bose products. Have you ever had a Bose system, or known anyone with one? I've always considered Bose top of the line in speakers and earphones but have never actually heard one of their CD/radio players. Any opinion you have about Bose would be helpful. I'd appreciate it.

Originally posted by DelmerBose produces some of the best low end (and by that I mean the woofers and sub woofers) in the business. IMO the only real drawback to Bose is in the high ranges (tweeters and super tweeters). I think Boston Accoustics and Altec Lansing do a better job in those areas. All that being said, Bose is excellent equipment and some of the most durable on the market. Most likely you would be very pleased. Cerwin Vega is another solid line more along the Bose equipment.

Bose basically sucks. You pay way too much money for what you get. If you want nice looking speakers with crappy sound, then go for Bose.

If you have some time to spare and want to read up on stereo equipment, I would highly reccomend this site: www.head-fi.org
It's largely focused on headphones, but there are lots of people who have stereo systems too. It's what got me interested in audio and I learned a lot from just reading the forums. I just hit the tip of the iceberg, but even that is loads better than before. If you thought chess players were crazy, wait till you see what some of those guys spend on cables alone. [personally i think it's placebo, but whatever floats their boat 😀] As long as you're a sensible person, you'll find your way to the truth.
Originally posted by mikelomYou want the best? MacIntosh. But that is for components. Nad, Nakamichi, MacIntosh don't make speakers. Altec Lansing, Cerwin Vega, Boston Accoustics, Bose are the better speaker manufacturers out there. And, all Bose is not crap. The lower end stuff, maybe...but their upper end is quite stable. Infact, if you research it a bit, probably 80% of all the clubs you go out to are outfitted with Cerwin Vega or Bose.
You want good?
Nakamichi.........say no more...

I'm surprized by all of the negative entries here. But it's all opinion driven.
Originally posted by Sam The Shamlmao. I am sorry, but that is horrible. I might consider buying it for $100. And no, I don't think it looks nice at all. It looks like some cheap plastic radio/alarm clock. sigh.

Better be one hell of a clock radio for $500. Weren't they about twice that when first introduced?
If you guys think Bose sounds good, you should go check out some REAL stereo systems. Then compare.
Originally posted by Zander 88I wouldn't even pay $100 for it, it looks like something that should sell for 1/3 of that.

It's a little dinky clock radio for god's sake....I don't care how good it sounds. Seems like for $500 you could get a helluva lot more if you shopped around.
