I love broccoli. It's fun to imagine the trees as the home of the Keebler Elves, and I'm the giant who wants to, and succeeds in killing them.

Anyways, most people seem to cover it in cheese when they microwave (problem #1, probably) it, it's probably especially prevalent around here (Wisconsin) for those who will actually shove it down their gullets.

The cheese is obviously supposed to make it taste better, which is does in all it's coagulated glory, but that's not why I like to eat it. It's great fiber, and again, it's fun.

Now it's kind of a mixed bag of results. On one hand, my colon is being cleaned by the broccoli, but on the other, it's being ravaged by the cheese.

My question is: Which do you prefer? Taste or Colon?

Are there any healthy alternatives to make the broccoli still taste above average, yet only improve the functions of my Colon?

cook it in beef stock?

what you really need though, is fast cars, small guns, an international crime organization holding the world for ransom with a stolen nuclear device, and naturally some leggy, busty young women. with tiny skirts.

That may work. Gotta be careful not to let it get too salty though.

Isn't that basically the script to every (and bad) Arnold Schwarzenegger movie?

or every albert broccoli movie to be exact. 🙂

yeah it gets easily too salty, especially the ends of the branches. so you have to be a bit careful with that.

works like a charm with most other veggies as well.

I see. I've never heard of him, but with a name like that, I can see it. 😛

So you pretty much just have to flash soak it, or at least enough to get it a little soft?

Yeah, stock is great stuff. Even the liquid leftover from Ramen noodles is great, much less the natural stuff.

Dunno about the healthy part, but my stepmother makes great broccoli. Take Italian bread crumbs http://tinyurl.com/5lqp2d and mix in a dish with parmesan cheese http://tinyurl.com/5jch52. Coat the broccoli with this -- I can't remember if she dips the broccoli (and cauliflower) in egg first or not. Then she fries it, but not to a mushiness. Awesome stuff.

I have. That's how I know it's too dry. 😉

steam it for half and hour, with salt water and other seasonings. Tastes great, easy to make, and is healthy. You can also add chicken or seasoned tofu, along with seasonings (curry, olive oil, and whatever else you want.)

Eat it raw, dipped in ranch dressing or cucumber ranch dressing.

Raw - dipped in hummus

Steamed - sprinkled with lemon juice and salt.

That sounds fantastic. Yeah, they'd be dipped in egg to make sure the crumbs stick.
