I thought these fires happened last year as well - there is a good solution I came up with, which agrees with the american principals of democracy and capitalism.

Why not have a private fire fighting service - that way the nice rich areas would be saved from damage and the poorer areas (and lets face it - they are most likely to be the ones who ...[text shortened]... be burned up, leaving space for new modern developments.

I see it as a plan with no flaws.

those are rather idiotic assumptions, besides which you are only faithfully describing the typical clueless "me-first" superficial all-american "head in the clouds" rent payin' apathetic pc flunkie.
What's an idiotic assumption?

1. I do spend far too much time stuck in traffic.
2. Voters have rejected the proposal to install a commuter rail, even though tracks already exist in many parts of the North Bay Area. Instead, extra lanes are added to the already choked highway system to accommodate more SUVs/pollution.
3. People are constantly complaining about gas prices, pollution, traffic...etc.
4. Californians pay more (per gallon) for gas than nearly any other state.
5. Californians are notoriously pro-environment.

Doesn't this seem a bit backward? Isn't there a bit of a contradiction here?

What part of "stupid" don't you understand?

There would be if all the poor areas of LA got burned up. Also, probably, less killings so the police would be more available to help out with the rescue efforts too.

your apathetic greed and religious pc indifference is showing. How quaint.

1. don't drive a car, it's that simple
2. the government is a big joke, the last two presidential
"demo-fraud" elections proved that beyond all doubt.
3. people are greedy and selfish slobs, yourself included obviously, as reflected by your rather insincere unbalanced "me-first" remarks. america is a resource hog par none. close to 11,000,000 million people on this planet will starve to death this year, most of them children. there are some things that money can't buy.
4. the price has been that high in europe for several years. again don't drive a car or buy one that is truly gas efficient or a hybrid.
5. that's an outright lie, a stupid bit of media inspired pc distortion.

there's no contradiction. You're a "stuck on stupic" suv-driving greedy short-sighted flat-minded pc flunkie/system apologist, sorely lacking in simple critical thinking skills. you're afraid to live in the real world, not my problem.

"what's an idiotic assumption?"

well that's real easy... that there is a solution in the first place, and that the government is even capable of providing a working solution. Oh and that your car and the price of gas should remain fixed. Face it the american do as you please nevermind the consequences lifestyle is fading fast.

It is a scientific fact that the majority of crime is comitted by the poor.

Also, it is everybodies dream to get out of "the hood" eventually and make something of themselves - so you will be doing them a favour in making their minds up for them.

Dude, you're truly insane.

I would love to ditch the car, but I'm unable to because of a lack of good public transportation.

I'd like to waste less fuel, and stop polluting the environment. How am I greedy? Sorry, I don't get it.

just as long as we ignore worldcom, enron, blackwater and a host of other white collar criminals, then yes that's true.

But these are the work of a small group of individuals in high ranking positions, rather then a collective effort by the whole company to defraud the general public.

There simply is not time to list all the offences caused by lower classes - otherwise news reports would last all day (although we are not far off that already with some of the garbage they report on the 24 hour news channels) which is why the white collar crimes stick out in peoples minds - they make good news, as these people are already successful and should not be needing to resort to criminal activities to suppliment their income.
