Hi , does anyone know if i can connect my external HDD to a DVD player that uses USB 2.0. i know that one can plug in a flash drive and that works ok, but what about an external hard drive? if anyone knows of a DVD player that lets one do this, or has any advice, i would be greatful, for we are falling over DVDs in our home!

Why not use rewritable discs and keep your movies on your external hard drive and when you want to watch one just convert and burn it. I have nearly 300 movies and TV programmes stored on 2 external hard drives. I just use 2 rewritable discs and a programme called ConvertX2DVD which I paid for but you can get 2 films on one disc quite easily and it works out cheaper than buying a hard drive media player.

Also a freeware http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper/ where you can rip your old DVD's to a video file and store them on your external hard drive.

i know, they are awesome, will play almost anything like you say, i recently bought a Toshiba ITb external usb hard drive, which came pre formatted, although the file system was FAT32, which is no good because it rejects the transfers of files over 4Gig i think, so i re formatted it to NTSF and these babies can even handle this! why they are not mega popular i do not know?
