Originally posted by VargHmmmmm, a friend of mine insisted I borrow Moulin Rouge a few months back. Maybe it was because I expected it to be truly horrible but I quite enjoyed it. The movie was definitely different, which kept it interesting, though it isn't going to be gracing my dvd shelf any time soon.
Titanic had only one redeeming feature and that was Kate Winslet (maybe that counts as two..😵).
Anyway, I had the dire misfortune to see Moulin Rouge a few weeks ago and I thank the deities that there were no sharp implements to hand otherwise you would not be hearing from me now.
I would nominate the horrible rape of a great play; the 1996 urban-setting version from of "Romeo and Juliet" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Clair Danes playing the lead roles. Truly, truly hideous. Especially the scenes that were trying to be funny by being purposefully overtly korny. They were korny indeed, and so BAD that they were physically painful to watch. They made me gringe and growl worse than my avatar, and that's bad.
What made it even worse was that in Finland, in the movie theatres as well as on television, there had been a series of bubble gum commercials that used that exact "gimmic" - being as corny and artificially funny as possible. Purposefully bad jokes. I quit buying that buble gum. For ever.
The movie wasn't much better than the bubble gum commercials.
