Charles Stewart and Eleanor Roosevelt

General

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

This has been attributed to both Charles Stewart and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Does it ring true?

I post it here in context of course. It seems like there is opportunity here to occasionally share ideas and even big ideas. But often it feels like there is no air left in the room to share an idea or two. All the metaphorical air is taken by the constant movement of every thread after five posts to "let's make this about me instead".

i have an idea that the people attending the event are all going to talk about me

i approve

Does it ring true?

For the General Forum?

No, not really. This is just a message board hosted by a kind of social media platform for chitter-chatter populated by posters with widely ranging degrees of seriousness, disinhibition and motivation.

"... small minds discuss people" - lol, People Magazine, YES. 😛

I started a thread to discuss a redesign of the RHP forums (discuss an idea --> Eot has a Great mind 😍 )
but it was sabotaged by people that wanted to turn it into a discussion of EoT (small minded wags!! 😠 😕 )

Yes, it is a valid saying.

It sounds like something a man would farcically say. Men don't talk about people as much as women do (unless it's about themselves).

Ask a journalist if there is value in rating these things in this order: Ideas, Events, People. Journalism focuses on all three, more or less equally.

Suzie, journalists tend to discuss that which sells and People Magazine is not the only guilty party.
Look at the utter crap on TV today and the people absolutely PINNED to the telly watching Oprah Winfrey's expose of the Royals. Are you kidding me???

Other stations covered the Golden Globes and Emmy's or some such people glorifying event. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeezus.

Suzie, if you put a TV show on discussing the discovery of Dark Matter and Gray Matter, the Network would lose money.

You started a thread talking about how posters like you should have the power to delete or curtail other posters' contributions. You even started fulminating about how you wish you were personally able to delete posts you didn't like on that thread. You are who are, and who you are is bound to come under scrutiny if you start openly aspiring to be able to delete other people's posts.

You talk like I'll have ownership rights to evert friggin' thread!! everybody would have the same option, it is an idea that is already used in FaceBook and others.

Limited Onwership Rights to a thread is a valid idea for discussion. You don't like it so you think everyone should not like it. And you blasted the thread into oblivion by discussing ME!!!
What the F, man, the idea is not a bout ME.

I can clearly see that you are one of those small minds that poster "they" displayed in his thread idea, whose wont is to talk about other people.
