I've heard of "knight-odds" games or "rook-odds" games, where the stronger side gives up a piece to start.

Bet that would be a popular tournament if anybody in RHP could enter with a realistic chance. I'd enter something like that, but I reckon I'd get an extra rook or two at the start!
