I've been thinking of owning a few chickens for years. I have read about 6 books, spent hours online and gawked at chicks with my kids at the feed stores around here for 4 years straight. I have no idea why I am so partial to chickens. I love the idea of having a chicken coop, chickens to name, and fresh eggs. I love building things, too.
Is that weird? Who owns chickens? 😠 CONFESS!!!!

growing up, one of my best friends had 5 or 6 chickens. they had far more eggs than they could use, they would also let a few hatch and would eat a few a year. They fed them with stale donuts, bread and other baked goods that they bought from a thrift store in bulk. If you like eggs, they are a good deal.

Mostly we butchered them and ate them and played with their feet.
Some hens we kept to lay eggs.
When you get them at the store, I'm not sure you can decifer male from female, but if you can and you only want hens for eggs, DO NOT GET ANY MALES! The roosters are very mean and will attack you at every chance with their talons! 🙂

Go to KFC, dig through the dumpster for some bones, and take them home to decay by the sink.

Speaking of dead things, I found a couple of hawk pellets today! They are so awsome, lots of little bones and fur in them!

You can use their eggs, their meat, and also ride them.
