I just read the below:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4475513.stm

Question is what should you do with kids that seems to have no control. I'm not saying the cops are right in what they did, but how can you deal with kids like that ?

After all teachers are no allowed to "give them a slap" anymore !!!

So what can you do ?🙄

serves the kid right, I bet she won't be behaving like that for a long time again. Besides, I think this report is pretty biased... but it's not like they threw her in jail or anything!

You right, all that happened from what I have seen is she was handcuffed and taken home....

There are ways to restrain a child without using handcuffs, public humiliation or resorting to the police. It seems to me the teachers are inadequately trained to deal with children who are acting out.

Next, I wonder what was really going on? Is there any inverstigation into the behavior? That kind of acting out indicates something more serious is at play.....anything from a brain tumor to emotional trauma.......

what can they sue for? is there a law against handcuffing children until they reach a certain age in Florida or something?

I saw it on the news. A little bit harsh to be handcuffing such a little tike. I mean for Christ sake, how dangerous can a 5 year old be for some obese officers.

I guess they held the girl for a few hours and let her go. Some people wanted to press chargers but that got shot down I guess.

when the police came, the little girl is just sitting in her seat, kinda calm? she'd probubly just been left alone. i mean, if a child ever gets in a mood like that generally you just leave them alone and ignore them. and if you're gonna call someone, call someone who's gonna know what they're doing. somehow i doubt every police officer has dealt with a 5 year old child kicking up a big fuss...

In the first place I don't think the school should have called the police. Police aren't supposed to take on the role of babysitters.

Secondly, the girl is apparently not mature enough to start school or has some emotional trama. This behavior should be given treatment by a professional.

And last, when the police arrived the girl was calm. They should've simply left and let the mother pick the child up.

It is just an example of what the world has become. Apparently, the school in this incident decided to record the child's actions to justify their actions. Was the school planning on making this an example?

Back in the day we had one kid that would absolutely melt down. I remember one time he did so in the boys bathroom and the janitor came down and cleared all of the kids out, locking the kid in. That kid screamed and busted up the bathroom until his parents arrived.

Those cops took a hell of a risk trying to apprehend a five year old girl alone ... should've called for SWAT team back-up ... snipers and tear gas ... it's a dangerous world out there

Looking at that video, she didn't even seem that violent. As someone mentioned, how violent can a five year old get anyway?
I'm all for tough discipline, but I think there are better uses of police time and effort. It should be a teachers job to control the kids in a classroom.

problem is, the teacher was probubly complaining about how "she's not paid to deal with children like this!"
