What is the worst Christmas gift you have ever given or recieved? I gave someone a top of the line rubberized pair of potholders because I knew they liked to cook.

One year at my grandparents house I was asked to help wrap up some presents, one was a tin of busicutes and I comented that that was an interesting present as I wrapped it. Then at opening time I was handed a familiar looking gift, yes it was the tin and to make the present even less exciting, I was asked to share them with the family. How sweet!

My wife's family has a 'great aunt' and I was warned...

"Never tell her there is something you like, or you will get them for every occasion".

My wife gets paper-weights, her cousin's husband gets anything with dolphins. All because at one time or another they said they like these things.

I entertained the idea of telling her I like beer, but was warned all that would get me was bottle-openers, pint glasses, and silly koozies with zippers, silly sayings or both.

My wife's grandmother gave me an AOL trial CD she received in the mail. It came in a thin tin box.

All gifts received are appreciated. It is not the gift, but the thought behind that gift that is most important.

But what if the thought behind the gift is:

Screw Rusty! What's he done for us lately? Let's buy him a dreamcatcher from a homeless guy.

Do you still appreciate it then?

My stepfather didn't get me anything regularly, but to add to that, one year he gave me a shirt he'd bought for himself in Duty Free. It was yellow and blue checks and 2 sizes too big.

Fortuanately for me, I have all good friends. Not to see what they can get from Rusty.

Doesn't everyone have a dreamcatcher over their bed?

I can just see it now. In the year 2020 you will be able to scan the brains of gift-givers with a handheld device to see how much thought they put into it.

If that's the case, you could scan the brains of gift-recipients to see what they really wanted.
