I used to think remuneration was spelt like that too.
Not being in a dictionary doesn't make it not a word.

There are plenty of perfectly good [indeed excellent] words that have not yet graced the pages of the major dictionaries.

And I see no reason for renumerate not to be one of them. It has a nice ring to it,
and it's meaning is pretty clear. It's going into my spell-checker.

I know the correct spelling, but I see the incorrect spelling in print so often that when I write it myself I get confused. It's as if bad spelling is contagious.
It is.

That's because spelling is arbitrary and once you have learned a 'wrong' arbitrary pattern
your brain can and will bring that up as well as [or instead of] the 'correct' one.

Personally I feel that 'correct' spelling is a soon to die fad, and dyslecksicks will
take over the Earth.

The OED used to have some arbitrary number of
"publishings" for a word to go in the dictionary. It is
a conundrum though - when does a word become a word?

Personally I think "googlefudge" has more chance
of getting in the dictionary than "renumeration"!
