"How much does it cost to have the Internet installed?"
"Can you copy the Internet for me on this diskette?"
"Will the Internet be open on Memorial Day tomorrow?"
"Oh!! You mean I need a modem and a computer to get on the Internet!?"
Student #1: "Yeah, she told me all about the -- what is it? -- Internet. Except you need this...thing...for your computer...to connect to it...what's it called?...oh yeah, a modem."
Student #2: "Ooooooo, aren't we special? We know the technical term!"
"My modem needs a new hard drive."

Tech comes up to check everything... and finally realized they had taken the Power Strip and plugged it into it's self.
That will save on the electric bill, for sure.

Being an IT technician at a University, primarily babysitting MA students I am sometimes pretty amazed at how dumb ignorant of computing they are, never mind the rest of the world.
I'm sick of being asked why they can't print, only to find that they still haven't worked out how to change the size of their file to A4.

I'm working in IT support at the Open University, and have heard a few stories like this. One person phoned up to say they couldn't get their course CD to work (the CD that has all of their course material and things like the OU's mail and conferencing program on it). After a bit of questioning from the helpdesk person, it came to light that they didn't in fact own a computer and had been trying to play the disk in their stereo!
