For those of you who haven't been students while in possession of Channel 4, Countdown is an anagram and numbers game hosted by none other than the legendary Richard Whiteley and the talented Carol Vorderman(http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/38405000/jpg/_38405245_countdown_300.jpg)

The aim of the game is to make the longest word out of the 9 jumbled letters provided. The person with the longest word when I say the time is up wins a rec. Should there be a tie, then if the words are 6 letters or more, then all tieees get a rec, if the words are less than 6 letters, then no recs given out.

After every few word games, there will be a numbers game, whereby you will be provided with 6 numbers from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (possibly 2 of these numbers, 1-10, can come up), 25, 50, 75 and 100. You will also be provided with a target between 100-999, and the first person to post a correct way (there may be more than 1) wins a rec. The provided numbers can only be used once, and the only operations allowed are addition, subtraction, simple division and multiplication. If nobody posts the exact method, then anybody posting a method which gets within 10 of the target, gets a rec.

Again, after every few word/numbers games, there will be a Countdown Conundrum, basically 9 jumbled up letters, which can be made into a word. The first person to post the correct answer wins a rec.

And that my friends is that. Please, don't use any software/internet searches to assist you as you will ruin the game for others.

Richard is the host, and Carol is the brains behind the operation, she displays the letters and solves the number games.

BTW: Rule amendments are up to me as I may have forgotten something.

You forgot to mention about the vast discussions they have on countdown relating to "er" words.

Also, you have to be under 10 to be any good at it - isn't a boy of 8 a two time winner at the moment?

I am already deeply suspicious of anagram engine users in this game of correspondence countdown... where are the anagram mods???
