took something like 5 years before I could even think of smoking without feeling sick. can't be healthy, but it certainly was effective.
that sounds dangerous.

GBS, your empathy and motives are pure as driven snow. Your reality read, though, is pathetic. A man behaves like a man, admits his

shortcomings and does whatever needs to be done in private. Clever boys and professional clowns masturbate good intentions in public.
Do you always do as you please when you're posting? Just once don't you think you could temper your desire to go splattering your drivel all over the place? If you went away and thought about it for a minute you might come to the realisation that pointlessly expending energy in such a way and bringing vaguery and banality to your posts is enough to make any thread die the death. Please man, think of the children!

If you're serious about quitting, the first thing you have to do is get off the booze. Trying to quit cigarettes while continuing to consume alcohol is like fighting with both arms tied behind your back.

But here's the rub: Giving up smoking and drinking at the same time is next to impossible. Your first effort has to be to eliminate all forms of alcohol from your life.. completely. After a few months of sobriety, when you feel ready for the next challenge, launch your campaign to eliminate tobacco.

You seem to be a tenacious, determined guy. What more do you need to get to where you want to be?

I have no good intentions. Just pure cold and reasoned facts.

In Polynesian mythology, Ka'ohelo is the sister of Pele, the goddess of fire. She became part of the sacred 'Ohelo shrub after her death.

I'm just gonna give it another go cold turkey and see how it goes. I've quit before for long lengths of time while still drinking and socializing. I had a single relapse but I'm honestly not going to run to prescription drugs just yet.

Palynka and Starrman are partly right. I do lack a lot of willpower when it comes to certain things. Of course, what I've told everyone here is about 1/4 of the full story so there's more to it than what I've just written.

'Good intentions' didn't apply to you, Palynka. Simply expressed

encouragement from your non-minced plain words to Sir Nicotine.

I think I may have to look into getting some aids (not AIDS) to help me along this time around. Anyone know if they have Nicotine Ben-Wa Balls in Canada?
They have a NEW smoking patch. Instead of going on your shoulder, this one goes over your mouth.

Wow. Those are some creative suggestions but I don't really want to torture myself as a means to an end. Has anyone tried Champix or Zyban?
Go down to the Lung Cancer clinic at one of the hospitals on University Ave. Hang out with some of the smokers for a while. Ask them how it feels to know they are only a few weeks away from dying.

Bingo....we have a winner!
