Ok - here is the deal.

You are to spend six months on a desert island and are provided with the computer equipment of your choice, ten games, and a 'men in black' device that you can use to wipe your memory of ever having played a game. This wonderful device would also wipe your memory of any technology advancements made since the game was released, allowing you to relive the game as you played it the first time around!

What would the ten games be?

I don't have the extensive experience of people like Russ and eyeqpc, but here are mine - in no particular order

Ultima Underworld II
Wolfenstein 3D
Half Life
Dune II
Command & Conquer Generals
Far Cry
Elite
Duke Nukem 3D
X-Wing
Grand Theft Auto - Vice City

Since you put the bit about being unknowing of technological advancements one of my ten would certainly be Championship Manager 97/98. Bah did I love that game!

San Francisco Rush 2049 (battle mode only)

The selective amnesia part makes this more interesting. Unfortunately, due to emulation and retro gaming, I have tarnished my fond memories of many 'classic' games. I load 'em up and think, 'Why did I ever get excited about this???'.

So, anyway, here we go.

1) Jet Pac (ZX Spectrum). I remember the first time I laid eyes on this beauty - and my love affair with computers went to the next level.

2) Omega Race (Vic 20) – I bought an old knackered machine off e-bay a couple of year back, and then found this cartridge, to relive the ‘good old days’.. What a treasure

3) Commando (ZX Spectrum) A I wasted a summer holiday in France playing this in an arcade. I was very, very happy when a decent port came out on the speccy.

4) Xennon II (Amiga) – Fantastic looking, Bomb the Bass soundtrack, great game. All my 8bit owning pals had Amiga envy when this baby came out.

5) Wolfenstein 3D (PC) – All my Amiga/ST owning chums had PC envy when this baby came out.

6) Doom (PC) – The prospect of 4 player Wolfy had me excited, but nothing prepared me for what was Doom. One whole year of university wasted endlessly deathmatching over our private LAN in my student digs. (For the record, Chris, I’m still house champ 😉.)

7) Command and Conquer (PC) the original. Toss up between this and Dune II, but this is the winner. Never happier than when pushing tanks about on virtual battlefields. (Another year wasted at Uni duking it out over a LAN.)

8) Half Life (PC) I almost died just watching the into sequence alone. Loved every minute of it.

9) Command and Conquer :Generals Zero Hour. (PC) Average single player, amazing online.

10) Far Cry. (PC) If you have a capable PC, I recommend you go and buy this right now. Then challenge the RHP site admins to some team deathmatch. We are waiting…

10 ALREADY??? But I really wanted to mention Xbox Halo (for the haunting music and amazing 5.1 surround + plus a killer game to boot) And GTA : Vice City – you can just play that forever, and, and…..oh, ok I’ll stop.

I am a closet game nerd really – not that I even play games that much now, but they have been a massive part of my life, so I still follow all developments with a keen interest.

Trying to remember all the old games I played on my dad's 286.

Test Drive (man this was a great game, loved that cracked windscreen when you drove off the cliff 😀)
Block Out (kicks tetris's ass)
Stunts (just loved building my own courses)
California Games (killed many bored hours surfing, skateboarding etc.)
Can anyone remember that game, think it was called 'Joe', where you had to get a job, education etc. Enjoyed that one very much.
Doom
Carmageddon
Delta Force 2, Quake 3 Arena (wasted too much time playing these 2 at varsity 😉)
Now, Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour

BTW, if you like tetris, do yourself a favour and check out tetriNet - multiplayer tetris. Good fun.

Thanx for bringing back the memories Chris 🙂

Not sure I want to know what level that was 😲

As for my ten, hmmmmm, in no particular order:

1. Mario Kart 64 - The classic
2. Goldeneye - ditto
3. GTA Vice City - Random acts of senseless violence 😛
4. The Settlers - The original and best.
5. Civilisation II - The only one I ever played
6. Sonic the Hedgehog - Many hours wasted in my youth with this old favourite.
7. Gran Turismo - With the amnesia thing, it could be any of the series, but simply the best racing games ever.
8. Pong - With the lack of knowledge of future technologies, it's got to be this one for the sheer novelty value.
9. C&C Red Alert - My first exposure to RTS.
10. MS Combat Flight Sim - Tally Ho chaps!

Everybody says Vice City and I agree, it's one of the best games ever made... but wait 8 more months and it's GTA: San Adreas you'll be playing! 😀

In no particular order: Socom I+II, all of the MGSs, the Age of Empires series, the Tycoon Series (Rollercoaster, Railroad, etc.), the Myst series (Myst, Riven, Myst III, Uru), the Fifa soccer series and of course the NFS series, I have all of them... :-) And Many, many more, but I'm already by far over my limit... 😀 Oh yeah, two more, the ones that I've probably played the most: Age of Wonders I and II, turn-based stratedy games. I'm not really into turn-based games, but these ones have mine and will surely rock your world! 😀

These were my favourites, but on my computer I mostly play RTS games though. (Such as old-timers like: Some of the Sierra series, Caesar III, Pharaoh. Knights and Merchants, Industry Giant, more of the huge Tycoon series. etc.)
