The reason the flag isn't on the list, is because it is not current. The Lion Rampant isn't on the list either, i would much rather see that returned. The Texas flag isn't there either, or the umpteen different American flags from creation to it's current 50 starred (50 ?) version.

That is not what I said. We are not talking about the south. We are talking about Dixie. We are talking about the confederate flag, a flag that represents to a huge number of people a lifestyle based on slavery, and a time that has passed. I have never, ever heard anyone who pines for Dixie mention any accomplishments of people during that time. Wha ...[text shortened]... was perfectly OK to say "it's raining pickaninnies" and that I was being absurd to protest.
'Dixie' is the south from the point of geography. The battle flag meant one thing to those who fought under it. If it now bothers huge numbers of people, that's too bad. There were quite a few people from Dixie who had some small accomplishments - Washington, Jefferson, Henry, Lee...

If you would, do some research and find out how many southerners owned slaves. Also, find out, if you don't know, what were Washington, Jefferson and Lee's opinions about slavery and its future.

From the land o' cotton,

How ridiculous

That's because the Confederate States of America didn't last very long. We (the US) can stop rebellions.

Patriotic? You said "those southern values of gentlemanliness, civility, etiquette and mannerliness" and I had to stop choking first. There's nothing gentlemanly about buying and owning people because you're too lazy to do your own work. There's not much civility in slavery itself, let alone what was done to the slaves by these people you admire. You want a dixie flag? Get one. You want respect? Get a different flag.
It's kind of funny. I went down south for spring break. In Mississippi, black people step out of my way when I walked into a store. In Alabama, I held a door for black man in his fifties and he told me to go to first, sir.

It is so much different than up north where, at least I, treat people equally.

Abraham Lincoln wanted to keep the Union together. They just found letters where the Union would buy the freedom of slaves because it was costing over $2 million a day for the way and it would be cheaper to buy the slaves, over time, than fight.

Also Lincoln said, and I'm paraphrasing, If I could free no slaves and keep the Union together, than so be it. If I could free some slaves and keep the Union together, than so be it. If I have to free all slaves to keep the Union together, than so be it.

when the south was on its last legs, it offered to give up slavery if the British and the French would recognize it as a nation, but they didn't pick up on the offer.
