Don't know how raunchy it is.

You should NOT use your PS2 to play CDs or DVDs.The lens is of such low quality that Sony, itself, even prefers its customers not use it for CD/DVDs.

It almost always results in the PS2 not be able read game discs after a fairly short time. You get the "disc read error" message.Son ...[text shortened]... SOCOM but many games only have a publisher sponsored servers in the US/NA.EA Sports for example.
I had this problem once, with my GTA 3 cd, but the cd was badly scratched and my other games were playing just fine. Besides that, I honestly have never had this problem, but thank you for the warning anyway.

You may have a newer model PS2. I bought one when they first came out almost 5 years ago. I used it for playing DVD's too. AFter a few years it was having serioous difficulty reading CD-Rom-based disks, i.e. the ones with the blue surface. Thankfully now few companies release games in that format anymore.

I have a friend's ps2 and he got it the first week it came out. He used it to play CD's and DVD's and ps1 games, and now it will play none of these things. That's how I got it. In fact, if you try to play a DVD on it, it scratches it up so bad it can't be played again.

I have a PS2 but i've never had any major problems with it...it does, however have trouble playing DVD's and doesn't have very good picture quality when playing one (which is the only known problem with mine) but that's why we have a DVD Player! 😉

I have a PS2 and it's fab tho I too generally use it more for watching DVDs. The only benefit I can see with the xbox is being able to plug a gameboy to it... My fave game...and the only one I've been able to complete is 'Devil may Cry.' If anyone knows it and can recommend something similair I'd appreciate it. Loved Vice & Getaway but I'm too rubbish to be able to complete them ;-(
You can't connect a gameboy to the Xbox. It can only be connected to the Gamecube. Devil May Cry is a superb game. Unfortunaltely its sequel doesn't live up to its hype. A third Devil May Cry is coming out in the winter. Some games that are similar to Devil May Cry that I recommend are Ninja Gaiden(Xbox) and the Onimusha series(PS2).

Halo, Halo 2(coming November 9, 2004), Ninja Gaiden, and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic are worth getting the Xbox for. For an exact date, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas comes out October 19, 2004.
