Is it just me or didn't Avenger John Steed come up against shop window mannequins that came to life and shot people with a 'gun' that was revealed as their 'hands' hinged open? VERY similar to the ones in the new Dr Who...

No, it was Jon Pertwee as Dr Who in the 70's versus the Autons.

Steed often came up against the Cybernauts but they were more like the Cybermen than the Autons which were shop dummies, which is why they appeared in tonight's new Dr Who - but apart from that wasn't it awful?!

Oh I don't know, I found it mildly entertaining. Mr Ecklestone was borrowing a lot from Baker, but give him time, he might grow into the role. I agree the story was a little damp, but next week's looks interesting, I'll give it another go for sure.

Terry Nation, inventor of the Daleks, wrote scripts for both Dr Who and The Avengers, so there was always some cross over the big problem with tonights episode was too many jokes ... some of them were good, but it felt like a parody

I agree. I could sum up what was wrong with it in five words; No wit or sophistication, whatsoever.

At least the girl is very sexy

Dr Who's girls have always been sexy, apart from that Australian air hostess with Peter Davison, and Ace with Sylvester ... the anti-Doctor ... McCoy

Isn't it meant to be mainly for children in the same way that the older series were? I thought it was pretty good, in that light.
Though I have a feeling any kids watching were being forced to by their fathers 😉
