Do the independants attack,or build troops? . . .changes the shape of the game 😠
There are always a lot of quitters. You just need to take that fact into account as part of your strategy.

When a nation becomes an independent, it takes stock of it's territory. It will aggressively defend it's territory as it exists when the bot first takes control, but if you nab land right before the player is replaced by a bot but after the player has stopped playing the bot won't interfere.

Other than this the bot just builds troops and stations them in it's cities until it can't buy any more due to upkeep restrictions.

THE FORKBEARD GAZETTE

THE TAMING OF TROLL ISLAND!!!

By Bob Ropechin

[i]The sailors of the Troll Island Fleet were eventually forced to leave Troll Island. The Marines did not signal them and it was finally assumed that they were all dead. The ships docked in the nearby royal city of Terrenon, Prince Castimer's home castle, and the captains of the two ships went to speak with the Prince himself. They were told that he was on campaign, but were able to meet with the seneschal, a short, balding man (perhaps as tall as a very tall Dwarf) skinny except for his pronounced, round gut which his rounded, bony shoulders attempted to hide.

"Your marines didn't take the island? All the reports said that there were only a few Trolls on the island! I thought you sent enough men? What is wrong with you people? This is what happens when you send Dwarves out to sea I suppose. The Prince will not be happy!"

He led the captains out to his deck which conveniently overlooked Firien Bay, muttering all the while. Once on the deck, however, his muttering stopped as he and the two captains saw the island.

Smoke was billowing off of it! There seemed to be a major fire on the island!

"What in the heavens is going on over there?" One of the sea captains, a swaggering ex-pirate named Jonny Oneblood, responded that "the marines took some sort of Dwarven firespitting contraption with them. Everyone knows Trolls burn like paper. Looks like they lit the whole damn island up! Serves those smelly frogmen right."

The seneschal quickly called for some of Prince Castimer's scouts, but none were available. He had to settle on an especially promising student a year from graduation. "Tom, your Prince needs you. Go with these men down to that island and find out what's going on!" He filled the young man in on the details of the campaign and sent him off with the captains back to the ships.

The sailors returned to the island with their new companion. They began to circle it to get some idea of what was going on before they dropped the lad off, but when they arrived at the Forkbeard Marine camp they found it overrun with Trolls!

These Trolls, however, were not the savage beasts that most people thought of when they thought of Trolls. They were females, their long, ropy green breasts in some cases dangling to their hips without covering, sometimes with a little Troll hanging off the end of it by his teeth, feeding himself as he swung to and fro. The young man, already sick from being at sea, ran to the edge of the ship and puked his guts out. "My eyes!!!" he screamed as his dinner went to feed the fish below.

When the Trolls saw the ships arriving they knelt on the ground, faced the ships, and lay their faces down on the sand with arms extended. The babies in some cases were squashed under their mothers, though they didn't seem to mind; others managed to swing out of the way and continued drinking from the hose like breasts (some of the Troll women had three) while sitting on the sandy beach, watching the ships.

"I think they're hiding from the fire, cap'n" said one of the sailors. "Send the Valdemar kid over there. The whole swamp is on fire and the woods are starting to burn...this spot is probably one of the least flammable around. Maybe that's why they're here."

The young scout was lowered into the sea on a small landing craft which he rowed to shore. The Trolls did not eat him; in fact, they were actually able to communicate! The young man apparently knew Trollspeak! Either that, or the Trolls knew Imperial. In fact the former turned out to be the case. Troll was available at Woodsman University and the young man had chosen it for his primary Foreign Cultures requirement. Some of the other languages offered were Dwarfspeak and Pirates' Cant.

In the end, it turned out that the battles on the island the previous year had indeed annihilated the marines, but at horrific cost to the Trolls. Most of the males were slain in combat and the island had been set aflame in the process! The Trolls by this time were only too eager to surrender and beg for help.

The sailors landed and helped set out the fires. They bonded with the Trolls. Each race learned a great deal about the other. Young Trolls began to wish to be Pirates when they grew up, and there were a number of new "marriages" that took place between sailors and Trollwenches. Corsairs, if you didn't know, have very strong stomachs, and these hadn't seen a female in a very long time. Besides, they were used to scabby women with droopy breasts. They took what they could get. They weren't such prizes themselves, even for Men!

Eventually a squad of Crossbowmen were sent from Trasada to accept the Trolls' surrender. Troll Island has finally been tamed.

They build troops but do not attack provinces unless it is to reclaim land that was attacked by someone else.
Doh!! Best I retreat pronto!

They keep building til their city is maxed out or they have no money left (I think someone mentioned before) ... should've attacked that troop centre while I had half a chance ... sigh.

The Lord of the Free Cities had an epiphany this morning! All I needed to do was change the install path for the Dragon Lords diploware; now I can while away my working days planning my next turn file and not have to rush home and erm, forget.
Very good, or you won't be free much longer.

Here it is - from gm@agegames.com

subject: Dragonlords - Special GM Challenge Game Beginning Soon

Hello,

This is the Moderator. I will be starting a special Dragonlords game
soon. This is for veterans only, to join you must have played at least
10 turns in a row without missing a turn. In addition, the GM will be
playing under an anonymous alias. The game will have a different
moderator than usual to ensure that I dont have any advantages. Also, we
will be using a different version of the diploware for this game. The
diploware can be downloaded at:
http://www.lordsofconquest.com/dragon3.exe
This should only be used for
this special game, not for any other games. For this diploware, there
are new troops available, the map is completely redone, etc.

There are 25 spots available, which will probably be filled quickly, so
if you want to join the game, you should reply to this email ASAP. To
join, you should download the new diploware, then send me an email
indicating you would like to join the GM Challenge game, and indicate the
realm you see on the diploware. You can also include a race preference:
Dark Elf, Elf, Border Prince (humans), Barbarian, Corsair, Halfling,
Dwarf, Goblin, Orc or Undead, or none.

Sincerely,
GM
.

Yeah - or at least have a choice between joining a 1 or 2 turn a week game ... more work for them I guess ...

I wonder why I'd get that email and not you ... I suspect my strategic renaming of armies and related idiocies that constitute my turns keeps them amused and at the forefront of their minds πŸ˜€

Yeah, I had to force myself to delete my acceptance email. Would be fun...but I couldn't be a commoner again...
