I both buy and sell on eBay.
Regarding listing - they now have a new free service which allows you to choose pre-existing photos of CDs and DVDs. This is a great feature.
I agree - be as detailed as you can. If you can't upload your own photos, be descriptive.
If you already have an eBay account - make sure you check the email account that is attached to it at least once a day. No matter what you put in your description - you'll get questions to that email anyway.
Decide ahead of time if you're going to ask a set price for shipping/packing. Decide if you'll ship internationally and if you will - make sure you put a note that it will cost more for that (not everyone thinks of this).
Decide whether to use PayPal or not. Personally, I don't like to use PayPal. After a certain point, they start taking a percent themselves. I always put a note saying "Check or Money Order - Your Choice. Sorry I do NOT take PayPal". You'll still get questions if you will, though.
Offer to insure the package as THEIR EXPENSE. Otherwise, make a note in the auction that you are not resposible if they do not purchase insurance.
Start every auction with an opening bid of 0.01 ! That's right, a penny. The more people you get bidding on the item, the better.
Leave feedback as soon as you get paid. Don't wait for the buyer to leave feedback for you first. This is the honest thing to do.
Mail out the items as soon as you can. If you get a Money Order then ASAP. If you're going to wait for personal checks to clear at your bank, put this information in your auction.
Put a note in your auction that the USPS will give you a money order for 89cents. Just so folks know that every US Post Office will do that.
If you WILL take international bids - tell them you insist on being paid with a bank check.
That's all I can think of.
Let me know if you have any other question and good luck.

I think I've just been done on ebay, buying a chess book. 🙁 I may just be impatient, but I haven't received the book 25 days after completion. Hopefully, books just take a little longer in the mail.

Email the seller!
If they sent it "Media Mail" it can take up to three weeks to get to you.
They should have told you that though. Leave honest feedback for the seller, too.
Also, if the Seller doesn't reply - eBay should be notified. Check the Help forum for how to.

I've done all that. Just going to leave it a few more days to see if either a) the book arrives or b)the seller returns my emails.

Well, you can counter that kind of thing by reading and leaving feedback and if you really don't trust someone, or have a question, then don't bid. Also, stay away from sellers with LOW or NO feedback.
Sorry, man, seems like you got a bad deal sometime.
Originally posted by turtlexYep that book isn't in the post, it was never planned to be posted, a guy of yuor intellect should have new better than to trust someone you don't on nothing about!

I can only speak for myself and those I've dealt with, friend.
I've had nothing but good experiences. I've purchased DVDs, computers, books, posters, banners, lots of collectibles, etc and never had a problem.
I've sold items for as much as 279 bucks (a hard to find theatre poster) and never had a problem with folks paying me.
I don't work for eBay so I don't want to argue about it, but speaking as one who sells honestly there - we're not all con artists.

Boris -

If you already have an eBay account - make sure you check the email account that is attached to it at least once a day. No matter what you put in your description - you'll get questions to that email anyway. That I do anyway - And I've added a seperate folder for e-bay
Decide ahead of time if you're going to ask a set price for shipping/packing. Decide if you'll ship internationally and if you will - make sure you put a note that it will cost more for that (not everyone thinks of this). I will ship internationally but will charge more (I've already worked out what I need to charge based on comparison with other sellers of the same item.
Offer to insure the package as THEIR EXPENSE. Otherwise, make a note in the auction that you are not resposible if they do not purchase insurance. Very good point - I will note that down in my to-do list and will include that in all my offerings (once I've started)
Leave feedback as soon as you get paid. Don't wait for the buyer to leave feedback for you first. This is the honest thing to do. good idea - thanks -
Questions remaining
PayPal - You mentioned that after a while they start taken a percentage - Have you (or anyone) more information on that (how much, when do they start, etc.) ?
Starting price - Can you start with 0.00 (as 0.01 will cost you £0.15 insert fee which I would like to save if possible) - And aren't you afraid that you don't get a decent price if you start at 0.01 (or 0.00) ... E.g. I've got a few fairly expensive watches (2 of them brand-new) that I would hate to go for anything less then £50
Put a note in your auction that the USPS will give you a money order for 89cents. Just so folks know that every US Post Office will do that. - Don't really understand that one
Many thanks
Kind Regards
Boris
