The qualified electrician advice is good.

Earth leakage trips are usually a neutral grounding which probably means faulty wiring.
Undersized cabling will burn and too much current on a circuit should only trip a breaker, not the earth leakage, as it should be an isolator and not a breaker. Live grounding usually trips the breaker too, so this is usually easier to isolate the problem.

What electrical items in your house are on or come on between 5am and 7am. DO you have central heating? Air con maybe? These might be coming on and tripping it.

I assume that by downfall you mean rain. Try using a water hose to wet down parts of the roof and side of the building on a clear day. Do small parts of the building at a time to see if the water is causing a short circuit to ground and blowing the fuse. If you really want to find the short circuit, over fuse the circuit and go find the smoke!!

There may be some small animal roaming the neighborhood about that time of day and causing the GFI to trip by running over or bumping against a piece of loose wire. Seems weird, but you might want to start putting out some dry cat food close to the switch box and then slowly moving it away from the switch box if there are any critters munching on the chow, to see if the pattern changes. Or even spread a light coat of flour around the switch box to see if there are any tracks left in it in the morning.

Just a suggestion

1st: okum's (sic) razor. The simplest solution is usually the right on. Change the gfi

2nd: You stated that it was tied to a motion detector. 5-7am is a time that some people let their dogs out, there may be early morning condensation on the outdoor motion sensor, which would cause the unit to fault when a dog ran by. The change in days could be a change in work schedule, causing different outages

it is the ringmain only.

none come on at that time

the house is dead at that time of day.

I have tried to think of all these things and nothing.

Nothing seems logical except deliberate and yet I can not think of how so?

You mention that you have "threats", what do you mean?
My wife has had death threats. Long story and very complicated. My wife gave evedence in court that was( shall we say) not appreciated.

GRANNY.
probably a good idea, will try it soon.

Definatly possible but the pattern puts me off this idea. I am discusing this with an electrician on a DIY site.

I have only lately started using a battery powered motion detector, not connected to the prob.
